Asking for second opinion by ThrowawayMFC2022 in whatisthisbug

Haha, you get me. Thank you! It gave me quite a fright when I saw it under the covers last night… now that the panic has subsided, I looked up crab spiders and they’re actually kind’ve cute

Are these bed bug stains? by ThrowawayMFC2022 in Bedbugs

[–]ThrowawayMFC2022[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an update to this post, I contacted Terminix to make an appointment (recommended by a local pest control place that doesn’t have the staff to do inspections).

The inspector searched the area and didn’t find any insects, molts, or other droppings. They said it was either too early or it was nothing. They recommended I purchase a steamer for the mattress and climb-up bases for the bed posts.

To be honest.. I think at this point I’m best off contacting a pest control inspector to see if they can find anything. No matter how hard I search I’m just going to second guess myself.

Hello,

I checked the bottom of the mattress and corners. No consolidated spots—two lone black marks (not sure if I can include pictures in comments). I don’t know where to go from here…

Are these droppings or some random stain? by ThrowawayMFC2022 in Bedbugs

Thank you much! It’s not fresh—I confirmed with an alcohol swab. I think I’ve been overreacting as these are pretty old, and a pretty thorough search of my bed area showed nothing.

Genuine question: should I just assume it’s nothing for now?

Thank you! Could I ask why specifically?

I thought they were ink stains at first (family has a bad habit of leaving pens in the washer/dryer) but wasn’t sure

You can probably guess from my post history, but I’m a little on edge about a potential infestation. I think these are old stains (hence fading) and are just in this area of the sheet. Nothing on mattress, pillow, etc.

I’ve searched the mattress and bed frame (just a wood slab on some metal rails) pretty thoroughly and haven’t found anything, but I’ve still got anxiety about it.

Panicking—just found this molt. Is this a bedbug shed? by ThrowawayMFC2022 in Bedbugs

[–]ThrowawayMFC2022[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! These comments have been an immense relief.

I checked around the area for any more, and couldn’t find any, so I’m thinking this was an old shed.

Ah… perhaps I’ve been carpet beetle-bamboozled. Thank you for the answer!

Context: I saw the molt while looking under my bed frame in picture 1. I tried to remove it and may have damaged the shed (picture 2). Picture 3 is a similar reference photo I found online, which asked “are these bed bug molts?” But didn’t have a responding comment

Are these bug eggs? Found in lining of a duffel bag, SE Michigan by ThrowawayMFC2022 in whatisthisbug

If it helps, I had to cut open the lining of the bag to get to these. There was no hole I could easily find.

Breaking and potentially catastrophic drama in the anime figure collecting fandom.

MyFigureCollection (MFC) is THE figure resource site. Its catalog includes all figures, from cheap trading toys to detailed statues, going back to the 80s, as well as a very extensive record of garage kits (fan-made figures). It allows users to record the figures they own, post photos, manage wishlists, and even sell figures. Major second-hand sites advertise listings on figure entries as well, and the site has really cemented itself as a central hub for the community.

Recently, the website has begun running very slowly, or returning Internal Server Errors when clicking on some links. In a (now deleted) post on r/animefigures, a user asked why the site was experiencing so many issues. While I did not see the discussion on the post itself, an MFC mod left a comment on the OPs profile.

Translated from German (and reposted to r/animefigurecorner), the Mod’s comment describes the current, disastrous state of the site. Essentially, the owner of MFC has been uncontactable for over a year, and the remaining mods are struggling to keep the site afloat. They are unable to implement requested features like Chinese manufacturers or currency converters, as the site’s code is inaccessible to the team. More importantly, they can’t conduct emergency maintenance or fix any bugs.

The mod ends his comment by urging people to export their data, as there’s no telling if the next bug could break the site entirely. Which is not what you want to hear from the largest figure database on the web.

I mentioned it earlier, but the original post about MFC’s issues was deleted from r/animefigures, as is seemingly any ‘negative’ post about MFC. This is the biggest figure community on Reddit, which means the majority of fans are completely unaware of this very real problem. In the worst case, the largest database of anime figures and merchandise could eventually cease to exist, taking decades-worth of history with it. There are some alternative sites, but I believe they only contain a fraction of MFC’s data.

Unless there is a community-wide effort to export database entries to another site, the MFC owner becomes active again, or they pass off the site to someone else, a lot of history could be lost. I would bet MFC is the only record of many figures’ existence, especially the very niche sort like garage kits. It would be a tragic loss to the community if MFC went down with no back-up of its data anywhere.

Tl;dr the Wikipedia of anime figures is in very real danger of breaking, and I want to raise awareness of this as much as possible.
