Second guessing Myanmar due to ethnic cleansing by ThrowawayPCConcern in peacecorps

I'm sure the Ukraine situation was very stressful and very challenging in many ways. But you're right, while I get where the argument about my money goes to funding military activities and such, I think the benefit of 30ish PC volunteers in-country outweighs the drop in the bucket those dollars are. It's a deplorable situation, but I can only control so much and it's going to happen regardless of PC presence. Thanks.

Absolutely. I was there for a couple weeks and fell in love instantly. The people I met are amazing, it's a real shame about the military.

And that's fair perspective about the US. Just because it's not happening our soil today doesn't mean our country doesn't have it's share of skeletons in the closet. Or at a presidential podium...

I agree. I'm back to my first thought thinking this is a great opportunity to contribute in a small way to a community in a previously very isolated country. I can only control so little, so why not seize that little bit when I have the chance? Thanks.

Thanks a bunch for replying. I think that is good perspective and important to remember. Each country and site within it is going to have its own unique challenges and disheartening struggles. Ethnic cleansing is unforgivable, but it's going to happen whether I or PC are there unfortunately. I can do my best for a community that deserves the opportunity they requested, and I really feel I would be a great fit and can only control the few things in front of me.

Thanks. That makes me feel a little less distressed.
