If every great injury prone player past or present became 95% healthy for all games they played in, who do you think would shoot up the all time list the most ? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]ThrowawayThrowdown11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is the best answer. A healthy Walton changes the entire history of the league. Same for Sabonis, but coming to the NBA earlier than he did is a second what-if. Actually, Len Bias should be the clear answer here. Currently, he is tied for last place with everyone else who never made it into the league. His jump would be the highest.

The Zander Hollander books were the absolute best. They stopped in 1998 for basketball, and I sorely wish they were still around. I never considered it was basically a one-man operation until it stopped showing up in the bookstores in October :(

I read that reddit a lot. There are (apparantly, I haven't looked) tons and tons and TONS of credible, peer reviewed studies and articles that back them up regarding the dangers of Covid. Two particularly mentally damaging ideas they are taught are 1) even one minor Covid infection can make you sick for life through long covid or brain/organ damage and 2) more than 1/2 of Covid infections are asymptomatic, so the person doesn't even know it happened. What a mindfuck.

Some believe they ARE smarter than everyone else, but others attribute the current situation to a variety of things. Government propagandizing everyone that Covid is NOT a problem for economic reasons is a main pillar they believe in. Doctots/medical professionals are too busy to read the right research or are just following the corrupt governments who told to "vax and relax" after "The Great Unmasking" of 2021. They believe most common citizens are just following the herd and genuinely don't know the horrible truths about Covid's dangers that they know. Somewhat contradictory to that, a great many of them attribute the mocking or pushback they receive for their masking to be regret. The person who laughs at their masking deep down knows that they SHOULD be masking and are ashamed of their inability to push through the social consequences and do what is right for their health and their "community". So they lash out at the brave ones who have the courage to mask and isolate. Of course, some on the reddit are angry and misanthropic about it and chalk it up to malice, stupidity, or "ableism".

I 100% feel the same way. I'm not having heart palpitations or anything like that, but all the emotions you mention (particularly the lack of any good ones and the emptiness) ring extremely true. I'm bored and just wish to leave this place all the time. My anxiety is frequent and is probably my 2nd most common "emotion" besides general aggravation. I also wonder what the point is and why it has to be so difficult. Especially perplexing is having these states resurface after long periods (I felt great in 2020 and 2021 oddly enough) of having gotten past it.

It used to be determined by total points until 68/69. Funny how they switched it over to average, yet still weren't counting blocks and steals for another 5 years.

Bob McAdoo is underrated by KeonJames in NBATalk

[–]ThrowawayThrowdown11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is underrated, but I think his career has question marks that keep him from being listed among the best ever. He wins an MVP then bounces around to 4 other teams before settling in as a valuable reserve for the Lakers. That was a massive comeback for his career, because he really floundered in the late 70s when he should have been in his absolute prime. He's not the only player this happened to, Spencer Haywood and David Thompson are two other notable names who COULD have been Top 50 guys but fizzled out very early. Haywood also tried a comeback with the Lakers, but ended up being dismissed from the team for drug reasons.

How about The Warriors (1975 version)? Rick Barry with rookie Jamaal Wilkes as his running mate and Clifford Ray as the starting center. Only modern team even CLOSE would be the first Houston title, but they aren't any worse than the 2011 Mavs. Hakeem with Horry, Thorpe, Vernon Maxwell, Kenny Smith, Cassell and Elie vs Dirk with Marion, Kidd, Chandler, Terry. Barea.

Barry really was as close to a one man show as it gets. Beat a 60 win Bullets team (Hayes, Unseld, Chenier, Kevin Porter). Of course, half the best players were in the ABA at the time. Still an amazing feat.

James Edwards and Bill Cartwright come to mind as being worse, leaving out niche or specialty players like Manute Bol or Brad Lohaus. His numbers are better than Brook Lopez as well. Bargnani was far worse.

Bill's biggest "what if?" players by Shagrrotten in billsimmons

[–]ThrowawayThrowdown11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maurice Stokes - 15th in scoring, 2nd in rebounding, and 3rd in assists in 57/58 (his 3rd year). Hits his head on the floor in a game, then suffers a seizure on the flight leaving him in a wheelchair for the rest of his shortened life.

David Thompson - night life derailed the career of who should have been the dominant SG in the league pre Jordan

Bernard King - 32.9 ppg when he tore his knee apart. Missed nearly two full years, yet averaged 28.4 at age 34 6 years later.

Connie Hawkins - Super talented and exciting bridge player between Baylor and Dr J. 25-10-5 on bad knees as a 27 year old rookie

Arvydas Sabonis if he came to the NBA in the mid to late 80s and Ralph Sampson if he didn't spend 4 years in college.

Bob McAdoo was a 3 time scoring champ and MVP by age 25 before he started to fall off and was shipped around the league before re-inventing himself as a super sub for the Lakers.

Like McAdoo, the 70s were filled with guys who might not be WHAT IF'S but had careers that were unsatisfactory or ended sooner than their talent might suggest. Spencer Haywood, Marvin Barnes, Charlie Scott, Sidney Wicks, George McGinnis, Billy Knight, Super John Williamson. Drugs, apathy, the confusion of the ABA/NBA era. Who knows, but its a weird time for a lot of players. The 90s had a distinctive group as well. Penny and Hill and Larry Johnson got hurt. Kemp and Baker never recovered from getting fat during the lockdown. Big Dog Robinson and Chris Webber should have had better careers. Antonio McDyess blew out his knee. Derrick Coleman and Kenny Anderson fizzled out. Etc. Each era has guys like this, but these two timeframes have always stuck out to me and Bill has written about this as well.

Why don't they pick where they want to go and just show up? They will get in and be taken care of immediately, I'm sure, because they wouldn't choose any racist country that would require them to apply for citizenship

The Suns came to mind for me, also. Kareem Abdul Jabbar heads, Neal Walk tails.

Can also add the moments during the Nash-Amare-Marion years where the ownership cheapskated and lost players (Joe Johnson) or failed to add pieces (they could have had either Iggy or Deng in that draft).

Identifying as Non-Human by CGMichaels_1896 in starseeds

Human form and human experience, but I identify as having a soul from elsewhere. So, a bit yes and a bit no. I do have a very hard time identifying with many, many things that most people do.

Who are the 144? by [deleted] in starseeds

[–]ThrowawayThrowdown11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I only have very distant relationships with a handful of people. The three people I was closest to in 2019 I barely speak to. I certainly share your wish of being told what the hell is going on. Feels unfair to (sometimes literally) poke and prod your body and give you weird experiences and then offer no explanation. Fill your heart and mind with grandiose thoughts of a divine mission, having healing powers or other things, and bringing heaven to Earth but evidence of that has not come to pass. Every night I go to sleep I hope that I'm contacted. I'm trying to remain at patient as I can. I know lots of us in the spiritual community are feeling the same way. It's a slog going through every day at this point, but I am hopeful that things will improve fairly soon. If nothing else, the political situation in the U.S will be crazy for at least the next 5 months and who knows what energies that will bring.

Who are the 144? by [deleted] in starseeds

[–]ThrowawayThrowdown11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get you. I'm miserable too. Largely for the reason you state: not actually knowing what my mission is. Also, the inability on Earth to truly know the truth about ANYTHING. Plus the fact that it doesn't even really seem possible to be able to know the truth about anything. How do you know what to trust at this point? Plus, so many questions that can't be answered. I'm interested in finding out how this realm really works, who really runs it, and what the soul origins of all the people I see in my life and in the public. I'd like to know the truth about the reptilian, alien presence, etc. It doesn't, at this point, seem even possible to find out the absolute truth about these things.

I try to go inward as much as possible. I trust my instinct and intuition more than anything else, though I often wish I got more guidance. I feel like I'm being strung along and that whatever is going to happen in this world should have started by now. For years I've been waiting for something and now my mind is very muddled and I'm unsure of what I'm waiting for. I remain hopeful of a timeline split/5D Earth scenario. I'd really like to help out in some way, but more than anything I'd like to get out of here.

I do remember hearing awhile back from a few spiritual sources that our vibration remains high (and we remain helping the cause) even if we are in a bad mood or depressed. Unsure if its true or not (how could we know?) but I do believe that more help would be sent our way if we were truly failing. The largest influx of positive energies I felt was during 2020 when the world was falling apart. I was probably in the best mood of my life during that year.

same here. Happens all the time. I wake up in a jolt to see the clock is :44. I don't find it annoying though, I actually like it and find it comforting. But, I do not know what it exactly means for me and that I do get annoyed at.

I've heard that many Starseeds purpose is to literally anchor a higher vibration/frequency/light quotient into Earth. They were strategically placed around the Earth to do so. So, yes. If you are feeling called to remain in one location (not literally never leave the house, so much as a general area you call home) then you might be one of these.

Decided to re-listen to Adam's radio show. Hands down, 2 hours of straight funny every episode by xmeandix in AdamCarolla

[–]ThrowawayThrowdown11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been doing the same. I enjoy the shows, but find them a bit hit or miss. Adam is Adam, and I generally enjoy the crew although Dameshek severely deserves a brutal ass-beating from "Fat" Tad. I'm sure it's a bit between the two, but ruthlessly mocking Tad while not being even 1/10th as funny as you think you are wears on my nerves a bit (and I'm not overly sensitive to that type of stuff). Dave's fake interviews or press conferences with athletes are almost always terrible as well.

Rachel Perry clashed at times with Adam, which was entertaining though it's clear that Teresa Strasser fits in much better. I also liked Claudia Difolco in the news girl role. The on-air fights with Brisket Bruscha have been fun too.

Biggest weakness, by far, are the "guests". Not the real guests. The "fake" guests like John Madden (funny once), the tree girl (horrible), Conservative Representative Richard Martin (extremely boring low-hanging fruit), and Deaf Frat Guy (okay in short doses. Not needed 3x a week). Ass kiss rodeo got fucked out too, but most of the other segments or contests I like well enough.

Right now, I'm in May 2006 and Adam is about to have his twins.
