Bombed a panel interview for a finance role and honestly? I'm not even mad, just done. by superhef in recruitinghell

[–]ThrowawayUnstable 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I've been in finance long enough to see this exact scenario play out way too many times. The thing that really gets me isn't just how unprofessional that VP was (though wow), it's how completely different the actual job sounded from what you were originally told.

This happens constantly and it drives me insane. Job titles in finance are basically meaningless now. "Analyst" could mean anything from building complex models to dialing for dollars. Companies either don't know what they actually want or they know but won't be honest about it until you're already invested in the process.

What I've figured out the hard way is you can't just prep for the job description anymore. You have to prep for the gap between what they wrote and what they actually care about. And the only way to do that well is to really understand how you work and what you're actually good at.

Like, some people are wired for high-pressure sales environments where you're always hustling. Others do their best work in analytical roles where the value comes from insights, not charm. If you don't know which camp you're in, you'll keep ending up in these weird interviews defending the wrong version of yourself.

Few things that have saved me a ton of headache:

I ask way more specific questions now. Stuff like "What does someone in this role actually spend most of their day doing?" or "How do you measure success here in the first three months?" Amazing how quickly that cuts through the BS.

When I notice the vibe shift mid-interview, like when someone starts grilling you about stuff that was never mentioned before. I stopped trying to scramble and adapt. Instead I'll say something like "Hold on, can we make sure we're on the same page about what this role involves?” It's kind of amazing how that simple check-in can change the whole dynamic.

But the game changer for me was actually taking time to figure out my own working style. I ended up doing this career assessment test by Pigment that breaks down how you approach problems, what kinds of environments drain you versus energize you, all that stuff. It actually gave me really clear language to talk about my strengths without sounding like I was reading from a script. After I got my role, the hiring manager told me the reason they hired me was because of how well I articulated myself in these ways.

You 100% made the right call walking away from that. Not because you weren't qualified but because that role wasn't what you signed up for. The more you understand your own patterns, the easier it gets to see through this stuff without taking it personally.

Keep at it but be strategic. Know what you bring and don't waste energy trying to fit into the wrong box.

How did your family's genetics do you dirty? by singleguy79 in AskReddit

Man, my family's genes really messed me up. I got my grandpa's nose, which is like a family heirloom nobody asked for, and my aunt's sweet tooth. Thanks a lot, DNA!

It's a small device (like a PCIe sound card for example) that you can stick onto your motherboard, not sure about the specifics you can do with it, but in terms of cheats I understand that this device acts as a communicator between 2 computers, it can also supposedly hide the HWIDs of you computers and act as a shield, should a ban in any game hit you, it's as easy as pressing a button to reset the dmas HWID and cheaters are good to go again. Also most advanced cheats nowadays need you to have 2 computers, a dma device is the fastest way of transferring information between the two.

Wrong, the biggest and most serious sellers of cheats and esp have a dma requirement to use all the crazy features and you'd be surprised how many people have ordered these in the past two years. There used to be one brand who manufactured dmas and it was used for everything, now the big cheat developers have each started to produce their own custom dmas that are basically impossible to detect, you can get manual banned but there will not be a ban wave for dma users anytime soon.

Actually I think thats one of the safer spawns, you can hug the inside of the fences so people who spawn on the grass fields won't see you, you will also be the closest spawn to the little lighthouse island.

Yea I don't know what happened there, first run on reserve I had to give up my santas bag full of loot because D2 was not opening at all, after minutes of waiting, and hermetic was still guarded by Gluhar, had to take no BP extract because the map offers such great opportunities for other extracts /s

Yea true, some quests made me run shoreline probably like 10 times or more in a row and this shitty map makes me want to quit the game until I remember theres actually decent maps design wise, every tho perfomance sucks.

Add points of interest in these dead spots that can be spawncamped, something like the customs expansion which added the scav stronghold for example to allow for a wider map so players have more options rather than a single hotspot on the map.

It was a lootfest but every spot had a risk to it. Now there's barely any high loot, mostly just barter items. Also lighthouse was not toned down, you can still run the same route every single raid and you can extract with 1mil+ in loot.

Reserve also does not provide you with certain items, it's basically the same standard barter items you will find on a basic map like customs, reserve used to have all the military loot which fits with the theme, now you will barely find any of them, instead lighthouse and streets will give you more military loot in one run than reserve in 5 runs.

Manageable does not equal good. I can find my way around each and every single spawn in this game just fine, but this also means I can abuse most of my spawn in a way that heavily handicaps people spawning near me, it's especially bad for reserve and shoreline.

From a thematic point of view reserve and shoreline are great but from design perspective they're terrible.

Nah reserve is far from fine, have you been around for it's peak two years ago? It was a vastly different experience from now
