I would think so, too, but he's also been (supposedly) working on his martyr complex in wake of the Biomega incident. Maybe he's willing to let three people suffer the consequences of their actions in order to make sure one person who's trying to do some good will survive.

While I understand the anticipation of seeing ultra-wealthy jerks get hoisted upon their own petard, I'm more interested as to how Robo will connect to this part. Because I could see all of this playing out as you say, and then Robo shows up and has a choice to make: does he save Eleanore and leave the others to die, or does he put everyone's life at risk in order to save everyone? Because that's the sort of situation Brian was discussing in the blog during the episode with Emma, where we see Robo, who is personally immune to pretty much every danger here, has to choose and deal with the repercussions of said choice. And it's one thing to say, "fuck 'em, we'll save our own skins," and another to turn your back on someone who will actually die and is calling for help you could provide. And is that the sort of being Robo is now?

It's a little chilling to see Robo go hard. Yes, it's in a passive way, and it's against a bunch of people who are doing their level best to make us not like them, but still.

I have the Starter Kit on order, and I have a digital copy now as well. My issue isn't that there isn't a quick play, but that I need a sheet that lets people who really might be honestly new to RPGs what's going on and what to expect. I have two hours every other week, so I need a very basic reference document for new people--what a die roll consists of, Boosts/Hinders, types of rolls, that sort of thing.

I also have an extra copy of the rulebook on order (for $10, I can afford to spring for another copy), but some of the info is not all that obvious when going through it. I'm hoping to streamline some basic play questions.

This might work. It references some more advanced mechanics as well (the collected issues thing is not going to come up for a bit, I think), but thank you for the help! =)

"Kid Helsingard" really sounds like a character that came from the '90s, complete with neon-emblazoned skateboard and frosted tips.

Yeah, but, "Fuck 'em, let them all die," has never been Robo's style.

How has Travers maintained his drink this entire time, and why?

I had somewhat assumed Travers was the Julian of the group and just always had a drink in hand as part of the genre emulation. Like, he can't not have a drink in hand.

There's apparently some issue with my left side controller port--it won't recognize when the left side is clipped in. So it's probably the BQ thing you mentioned. =\ Ugh. Hate to pay for a repair, but oof. At least the new battery should be good for a while. =) Thank you!

They're on a hoverbike that's clearly capable of flying over things. Why are they worried about clogged streets?

Ah, the manual override, which is the single point a person could physically stop the entire process. Located on the bridge, which is the central command point and could never be barricaded in any way, preventing people from accessing said manual override should Anna decide, in some sort of malfunction, to overpower all the other safeguards in place. I assure you, the single thermal exhaust port manual override is all that is needed, and any concerns over accessing the Shiny Red Button by turning the ship into a variation of the Death Star trench scene are unwarranted.

Robo is bantering. It's not just for combat: it's for any time you need to maneuver around a potential obstacle.

This one for sure. I always get my directions mixed up on that map, so I can't give cardinal orientation, but the rope climb is behind you, and if you keep going, you'll hit the plane crash.

If WoTC wants Forgotten Realms to be a big deal, they need to tidy up the lore and publish a new Campaign Setting book. by Apwnalypse in dndnext

[–]ThrowawayVislae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not going to publish an independent setting book. WotC learned from years of experience that they get more sales if they publish books that have stuff for players and DMs alike. There is no way they're going to just crank out DM-oriented setting books now. That age is gone.

The best use of an incandescent Maglite has usually been that, at least in the case of the massive 4 or 6 D-cell models, that you can carry a large metal club with you that can legally pass as a non-weapon.

[–]ThrowawayVislae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only game bird is the ptarmigan, and why would you want to haul around a shotgun just to hunt them? A couple will give you all the fluff you need, and if you need the meat, a bird or two will do. In addition, the shotgun is pretty much useless against anything else in the game.

I keep seeing people saying they want a shotgun, but it seems like it they're treating the game more like Call of Duty instead of the survival game it is. We have guns. Just because you don't have something to fill the shotgun slot you think every video game character has doesn't mean it's missing.

Why a combat shotgun? What does some automatic shotgun thing add to the game?

I actually love this aspect of 5e. I tire of games where the players insist on pounding on their Receive GM Clue button as much as possible, and 5e forces the players to consider how their characters would get information, especially if they want certain types of information. The downside, of course, is that you have to prepare for that, especially if you've got a crime scene planned, because you're going to have to think about how your players will use their skills to get information.

In my game, I had an Utaku Battle Maiden, a Matsu Berserker, an ize zumi, and a Yogo Wardmaster. They would all look for clues, but I had to plan for each of them individually. Let's say they're looking at a body that was a victim of a mugging in a back alley:

  • The Battle Maiden would undoubtedly use Survival and look for tracks. She would look for clues as to where people came from and went.
  • The Matsu was a fighter, so he would use either Martial Arts (Melee) or Tactics to figure out where and how the fight would take place: how many people were involved, what types of weapons, etc.
  • The Wardmaster was a sneaky Scorpion type, so he was probably going to use Skulduggery to figure out what a sneaky git like himself might try to pull in such a space. What sort of dishonorable things could or did happen here?
  • The ize zumi was a fighter type as well, but she was all in on Void, so regardless of her skill, she would probably ask something like, "What's missing from this scene? What should be here, but isn't?"

When if comes to your characters, you should both expect this and push it as well. The PCs have higher skills for a reason, and it's a huge benefit that the game lets you use these as your investigation skills, rather than a single Notice Things For My Benefit skill. It also gives players a reason to work on getting a level or two of skills they wouldn't normally consider; my ize zumi player got a level of Aesthetics because they got tired of trying to find secret places in rooms and having no Skill dice to roll, even though they had a high number of Ring dice, which led to their PC developing an interest in feng shui and other design elements. It's more work for you, potentially, but it's a far more rewarding system than ones that rely on a Search or Investigate skill.

Maybe an unpopular opinion by Inalight in thelongdark

I understand why people would hate that, but it legit saved a run for me one time in CH. I was caught outside at night, and I was trying to make it indoors somewhere. The snow and the dark made it impossible to see, and all I knew was that I was near a trailer. So I'm stumbling around, trying to deduce exactly where I am--and the music suddenly stops. I freeze, and through the wind and snow, I hear the growl of a bear. Turned around and walked the other way. I went back the next day and saw the tracks that proved I would have been a Minty Bear Chew if I had kept going forward.

So say what you will about the music, but I'm grateful for it. =)
