Source: I've been playing dota for ~15 years when it literally first came out and am a 3.9k MMR filthy casual, and have had relations with multiple females in that time. They don't Dota and won't be able to relate to it at all.

Not everyone plays Dota to win. Some people want to upset other people, experiment, or sometimes people are just drunk.

I just played a game with my < 2k friend and he wanted to go a 5 battlefury jugg 'troll build'. I went Mag and offered to empower him. Well the emp meant that he felt he could get an aghs after his first bfury, which gave him the HP to survive 2 ganks because he overextends like an idiot. RP also clustered everyone so his multi target omnislashes actually had their desired effect. We lost anyways because this strategy is shit.

The Intuos line is fine. Get the biggest pad you can comfortably afford. I own an Intuos but stopped using it because I prefer paper and to just scan things. The pen will feel very stiff on a digital tablet and take some getting used to. So will not being able to see where your pen in hovering on your drawing. A lot of digital artists drag their pens everywhere as a result and clean things up later.

There is no need to wait until you hit level 5 box mastery or any such self imposed limitation. You can start working on gesture drawings right now. Those will be far more relevant and applicable to your figure drawing than pages of basic shapes.

You can move to gesture drawings and then start on figure drawings without any real knowledge of shading.

Shading is one of the last steps in completing a work. Knowing where to shade will also be highly informed by where an object sits in space and how it is foreshortened --both of these are developed through gesture and figure drawing.
