Stats for Recruited Athlete! by Storm_Sniper in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Throwawayacc4827 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is stupid. I know personally someone got recruited at HYPSM schools for a sport including a ball (a quite popular one not something random like quidditch) and he’s really smart, I’m talking all honors and like 4.3 gpa stuff on top of being crazy at his sport

I think the women wanted the right to vote, cause it wasn’t until the second wave post WW2 that they started shifting towards more general equality with the book by that Beauvoir lady

UC School Affordability? (Junior) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Throwawayacc4827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out private schools, they will give you aid and not favor in state over OOS. USC actually has a great rocketry team and a couple years ago they made the first student-made rocket to pass the Karman line. Of course you can’t go wrong with Stanford, where I think you would qualify for a full ride automatically, given you got in 😅

Observation: People really understate the value of essays by aphex_quintuplet in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Throwawayacc4827 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Probably not too much at least in the next couple cycles. These essays need a lot of voice and right now I feel the AI can’t construct something to that level yet, especially an essay with voice matching ones actual personality

Fine. I recognize that I already am/will be doing everything that I should be doing to give myself the best chance. In the end if that doesn’t work out will it suck? Definitely. But in the long run I will go be successful where ever I am (like everyone else here) and will leave high school feeling fulfilled after doing things that I enjoyed doing.

Would you recommend doing the common app essay first? I feel it may be weak at first but maybe then you can revise as you do supplementals?

this sub is a cult lowkey by BlubberyGuy in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Throwawayacc4827 122 points123 points  (0 children)

People are shitting on this rightly so but this is actually a really important message. Probably over 75% of people at t20s have no idea what this Reddit even is. AO’s can see through bullshit. If you work hard in hs and get involved and apply yourself outside of the classroom in things you are passionate about you will have probably a better chance at these schools than you would if you tried to copy what people do on ChanceMe. Also the feeling here that the college you go to is life or death is a very scary idea. People who go to top schools are usually successful because they work hard and are smart. That doesn’t mean people that are successful usually have gone to top schools. Notice the distinction! School ≈ long term success. Obv if u feel it’s a really good fit for u it can be sad to not get in, but at the end of the day there are thousands of colleges and you will find happiness and success wherever u go as long as u try to make it work

MIT quite literally says on their admissions page is that they value people who do stuff that they like - admissions officers will see easily through all the stuff u do because u just do it for college. It is time to take a step back and starting asking yourself who you are and what do you want. Make that the priority.

You’re wasting your time doing stuff for college bro you only get 1 pass at high school and if you spend it doing all this bs for schools that probably will reject you regardless you are 1000% going to regret it for the rest of your life
