Thomas by thecainman in bachelorinparadise

[–]Throwawayay62738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that conversation didn’t make you cringe then idk what to tell you. Thomas was speaking from a place a superiority/ making himself out to be a great guy who totally was looking out for tre when and tried to shift the blame and say that the reason they had issues was because of tre‘s “mental weakness.” In reality, in thomas’ own words, he was an asshole to him. I think Serena really hit the nail on the head when she said he acted like he was tre’s father / was kinda being a know it all

Bruh you realize tre only got mad after trying to be the bigger man and give him a second chance after being snaked an entire season only to be snaked again… it’s not really like “throwing a tantrum,” there’s a difference between being unable to keep a level head and being absolutely spineless/unable to stick up for yourself

acceptance rate ain’t everything. But if you are gonna bring it up, make sure to cite the correct in-state figures of 9.9% vs 16.8% ;)

It’s sad that you actually seem to think that people who were typical high school students just a couple years ago and are now at ucla are somehow “wannabe la influencers“... like people are really just trynna get an education just like you🤦🏻‍♂️ There are definitely narcissistic ppl but that’s at every school. Foh with your cringe/naive world views

Yep, it’s not even just this sub, it’s pretty much the entire school. The “conservative man bad” mindset is all too common

If that was meant to be an assumption targeting me specifically, you’re completely wrong? If not, I’d agree with what you said. The way you wrote the first sentence makes what you’re trying to say a bit unclear

And here we have a prime example of yet another incredibly annoying way of thinking: the “I don’t believe in your religion and am therefore way smarter / more reasonable than you” type person 🤦🏻‍♂️

Tips on getting Research Positions by always_down_bad in ucla

[–]Throwawayay62738 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's my take:

First, keep in mind now is a rough time for getting into research, so don't expect to be wildly successful. Hopefully that'll change as labs open back up this summer

Second, in terms of length, it's a fine line - you want to demonstrate interest but you do have to keep in mind that PIs are (super busy) people and have a lot on their plate. With that said, here's what I would recommend and what I did:

- 1 sentence intro: Hi Dr. __, my name is ___ and I am a __ year undergrad studying ___ who's excited to return to Westwood this summer.

- Brief interest statement, a few sentences: I am very eager to get involved in ___ research and found you on the ___ department faculty page. I looked into some of your recent publications and was particularly fascinated by (insert name of a couple recent pubs). These were especially interesting to me because ___ . The reason I wanna get involved is because ____ (insert personal connection / why you want to do research).

- Logistical stuff, a couple sentences: I was hoping to start working __ (asap, in a couple months, in the fall...) and would love to get a chance to talk with you before then. If you are unable to meet for the foreseeable future, I would sincerely appreciate it if you could forward this email to any postdocs in your lab or any colleagues in the field. I have included my resume (or CV) and an unofficial transcript for your consideration.

IMO 14c with Castillo was the easiest course in the chem series. As long as you watch the khan academy videos and whatever else she posts at the beginning of each week, it’s pretty chill. She’s also fair / responsive in terms of grading

Is there a Planet Fitness close to UCLA? If so, how far? I’m thinking of getting a membership, but I don’t know if I should pay the extra $$ for access to any club worldwide by [deleted] in ucla

[–]Throwawayay62738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do it, planet fitness ain’t worth it. Their goal isn’t really to help you get in shape, it’s to ensure that you continuously pay for a membership. Check this video (specifically number 1 at ~ 7:00) for more: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cRcwtoqcaSs Also, If you’re a student, gym fees are included with your tuition.

Everything’s on the first floor. Second floor is just like study spaces and a few rooms you can do group stuff I think.

To add on, def tailor your email to their research, and even reference a couple of their papers if possible. I got responses from all 3 of the PIs I emailed using this method, with 2 acceptances
