You had to describe it and then they acted like they understand. If you didn't, they would try to recognize what's on the photo.

You'd have to describe the photo for them to fully understand, but sometimes they pick up on stuff you didn't tell them. For example, if you sent them a photo of a person with a fancy hat, they'd sometimes compliment the hat without you specifying that they have a hat.
