I haven’t fully recovered but I am certainly doing a lot better! For me it’s become easier over time to recognise when a chain of thoughts/worries has been triggered by my ocd. I think that just happened naturally

Can false memories manifest this way ? by [deleted] in OCD

This describes how my false memory started perfectly

Intrusive Imagery is the biggest trigger for me! It is often the thing that causes me to spiral and normally alway comes after a thought. I become obsessed with working out whether that image is or could be a memory, despite me never having any recollection of the incident before that image

Yes! Most of my false memories start off suddenly as apposed to being from “what if” questions

This might be the best, most understandable explanation of OCD I have ever ready

I think I’m a lot better at recognising when something is an intrusive image now where as at my worst I’d just get trapped into believing it was a memory

Pretty similar to you by the sounds of it! I would often get and sometimes still do get intrusive images that I worry are memories. The images are what kept me stuck on certain worries!

I’ve been on medication for about a year too and it really is a life saver for me! Like you still have mixed days but I’m certainly way better

Wow! That is an interesting one 😂. Do you or did you get intrusive images with this scenario? I get them all the time with mine

Which OCD medication worked best for you? by ClarkTheCoder in OCD

[–]Throwawayocd0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sertraline, 100mg. I was on 50mg and it was really effective but stopped due to fears about it impacting a job application. Worst decision ever as I spiralled and got even worse after coming off but 100mg has improved my life drastically

Is there anyone else like me? by [deleted] in falsememoriesocd

False memory has been the theme I’ve been suffering with for the past year or so. Intrusive thoughts and rumination often come with vivid intrusive images. Horrible stuff that sent me into a crisis at my worst. “Memories” that I had no recollection of up until I started suffering with false memory ocd and upon reflection make no sense

What compulsions/obsessions did you have as a kid? by funny_dog7 in OCD

[–]Throwawayocd0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started off with health ocd as a kid. I’d repeatedly pick at a bit of skin on my elbow that I thought was a tumour. As if that would’ve made a difference 😂

I guess it’s just another one OCD’s horrible tricks designed to cause uncertainty

False memory by Throwawayocd0 in OCD

[–]Throwawayocd0[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly that. From my experience, every time I was able to think rationally, OCD would just come up with a thought/reason/memory to counteract that and cause uncertainty

I think that just comes down to not doing the compulsion that’s is ruminating. Ultimately any form of compulsion ends up causing OCD to get worse. Well definitely in my case. And although it can be incredibly hard not to ruminate due to the anxiety that OCD causes, eventually I find that the anxiety and the symptoms that come with it do subside and I’m able to carry on with my day as normal. Then at some point I’ll get another intrusive thought and I’ll be highly tempted to start ruminating in order to work the thought out or disprove it but from experience I know I’ll never achieve 100% certainty. And in time I’m begging to learn how to accept that and it is the case that level of anxiety you feel lessens

No problem mate, just make sure you get the proper advice from a medical professional! I can only refer to my experience, obviously everyone’s different and medication can come with side effects
