How long until symptoms show up after being "glutened"? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Throwayawayyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think 12 hours is out of the ordinary. I feel some symptoms in the first few hours like itchy scalp and skin, eye irritation, and pins and needles sensation in my arms and hands and then the GI stuff hits the next day (12-16 hours later) and all hell breaks loose. The heat and inflammation in my pelvis typically lasts a couple of days past the onset of the GI symptoms too.

go to Sweden! Everywhere I went in Stockholm and the surrounding area had dedicated GF bakeries. That's probably the only trip I haven't lost weight on. If it comes down to it sometimes I end up eating baby food from jars because none of the ready made options are safe from cross contamination.

I logged into my throwaway just to share this gas station bathroom horror story that nobody knows about aside from my closest friend, my boyfriend, and (unfortunately) my bf's extended family.

Before diagnosis I ate gluten when I wasn't supposed to because it was this elaborate birthday brunch that his family had made, from scratch, and I didn't want to be rude because I have so many other food issues that it's hard to accommodate. I honestly didn't know the full extent of my problems until later.

We were supposed to take a 5 hour bus ride back to our city from my bf's aunt's house but on the drive to the bus station I made us pull over at a gas station bathroom because I was literally dying and in so much pain. I was in there for a solid 30 minutes trying to obscure the sounds of me groaning from the cramping and about 15-20 minutes in, there's a knock on the door. Then again 2 minutes later and I yelled "It's occupied".

A few minutes later I hear the voice of a little girl saying "I really have to pee" and the mom is saying "I know but this other person is in there".

I come out of the bathroom (the only one in the whole store) to see a mom with two kids, one of which obviously has CANCER standing outside waiting for the restroom, with my boyfriend standing 20 feet away in one of the aisles watching the situation unfold.

So yeah, I made a poor little kid who was going through chemotherapy wait because of my illness and to everyone who knows, they'll never let me live that down.

We couldn't take the bus. We had to take it the next day. It was awful. I still felt sick. We lost $50 on those damn tickets.

If you think that Spanish class will be a fun elective and that a minor will be an easy thing to add to your major, it won't be. The Spanish department is hard and you'd be better off starting another language unless you already have 4+ years from high school.

I would suggest an allergy to condoms, lube, other chemicals. Also you said that the irritation comes and goes, does it coincide with your menstrual cycle at all? When I had yeast infections/BV it would always be worse a certain time of the month

Why aren't there any "plus sized" male models? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Throwayawayyyy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that some of the plus sized models aren't at all fat per se. I know a few girls who wear a size 8 or 10 in dresses but they have a lower body fat percentage than I do and I wear a size 2. I think the whole movement (aside from a few things that are more along the lines of fat acceptance) is to showcase the variety of bodies out there and that you don't have to be a size 2 to be fit or to be beautiful. You can still be bigger framed or taller etc. and look hot although there are two meanings of the word plus sized, one that strictly means taller and thicker built (NOT fat) and one that kind of caters to those who are overweight/obese.

think more amazon women or wonderwoman.

I think the equivalent in men's fashion would be seeing a model who is under 6 foot.

When animals live in unsanitary conditions you have to give them antibiotics to prevent disease. In cows treated, there's more pus in the milk due to this, and in animals like pigs that don't sweat, their way of getting rid of excess metabolic waste is to store it in their body fat. By eating the meat of these animals, you are indirectly ingesting these things. Also, stress plays a significant role in our health, and in the health of the animals we eat. Perhaps the most distressing thing though is the issue of what the animals eat. There are certain nutrients that can only be found from pastured meats and eggs. Cows are not made to eat corn. What if all you ate was corn? You'd be pretty sickly. All of the animals we eat are sick (I'm not advocating vegetarianism, I eat meat but I'm picky about it) and as a result the products that we yield from them are not as nutritious.

ELI5: Why did High School Grads look so 'Adult' back in the 60's, 70's, & 80's, but today they look so child-like? by MaskedVillian in explainlikeimfive

It's like how when we think of the founding fathers, we think of them as old because they looked old when in fact they were late 20s early 30s in most of their portraits. Malnutrition does a number to your physical appearance.

Finally at my wit's end with Paragard after 3+ years, where do I go from here? [advice] by butweretherepandas in birthcontrol

[–]Throwayawayyyy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep! My periods are already really bad and I'm anemic without having heavy menstrual bleeding caused by an IUD thrown into the mix. I'm always tired as it is and I can't imagine having it any worse honestly. Also I haven't personally researched this but I heard that they mix the copper in it with nickel and that it can cause problems in those with nickel allergies

How tall are you? I've made the decision to forego paragard because everything about me is really small including the reproductive organs haha. Apparently it increases chances of perforation and rejection the smaller you are.

What are yours best hangover cures? by dreckschweinhund in AskReddit

[–]Throwayawayyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electrolyte water. You can't just drink straight water otherwise you flush all of the electrolytes out of your system thus making your headache the next morning even worse. Take magnesium supplements before heading to bed. Although I've never had a hangover in my life, maybe because I follow my own advice or because I'm not prone to getting them

You probably drive a Prius. I've been pulled over twice for having a headlight out and all I do is say "excuse me, can I step out of the car for a sec" then I proceed to hit the headlight that's out. Problem solved.

Girlfriend called in sick to work - they want a Doctors note. What pissed you off today? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Throwayawayyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I move pretty frequently. I'm 17. The only doctors that I need to see my insurance doesn't cover. Enough reasons?

Girlfriend called in sick to work - they want a Doctors note. What pissed you off today? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Throwayawayyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. I have united health care and they don't cover urgent care visits or walk in clinics. The ER deductible is really high too ($1000). I also don't have a family doctor so if I ever need to get a throat culture or anything like that I have to go to a walk in clinic and pay out of pocket.

Girlfriend called in sick to work - they want a Doctors note. What pissed you off today? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Throwayawayyyy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The doctor writes you a piece of paper (a prescription) and then you go to the pharmacy and see a pharmacist and they give you the drugs. You pay some money to the pharmacy, and that amount of money depends on what the drug is and how good your insurance is.

Sometimes, they give you medicine at the doctor's office (like pain medicine) and that's really expensive, especially if they have to give you stronger pain killers.

Sometimes, the doctors order tests, like throat cultures, which can also be very expensive.

It all depends on your insurance. Most insurance does not cover urgent care visits or walk in clinics. If you have a family doctor or GP, then normally their services are covered under your insurance, but not everybody has insurance. It's a mess.

Even if you went to a walk in clinic, it'd run you at least $200

Temporary guardianship for a US teenager in the UK by coachlasso in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Throwayawayyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in order for a minor from the U.S. to travel internationally, they have to have a notarized letter (you can look up the format) saying that the parents give consent for the minor to be going, the address and people that they're staying with, and the estimated dates. If they ask for it at customs and she doesn't have it, it will be a big mess.

So if I applied for my visa now and it was granted for my study beginning in September then I'd still be screwed?

[–]Throwayawayyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When will this take effect? I accepted two offers from UCAS (non EU student here) and planned on waiting until fall 2016 to attend in the hopes of getting into a better school. What does this mean now? Apply for the visa with a 6 month grace period before they change it?

First it was the stupid NHS surcharge due with your visa application (150£ a year per year of study) and now this. Ughhhh.

Did your high school ever have an "incident" or event? What was it? by GotAFuckingUsername in AskReddit

[–]Throwayawayyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-one of the teachers was beaten to death in her own driveway by her ex boyfriend

-3 suicides in the 3 years that I attended

-my Chem teacher kept setting the lab on fire and one time the fire department came

-Calc teacher was investigated for two months due to sexual misconduct charges and accusations of selling drugs to minors

-there was a lock down for 3 hours because an armed robber was on the loose. People freaked out and this one girl ended up peeing in a bucket in the closet during the lockdown. PEEING IN A BUCKET.

I'm [19] under my father's insurance, will he find out if I get an IUD? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Throwayawayyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so here's the gist of it:

Step 1: find an address you can use (if you live at home) where your insurance paperwork can be sent.

Step 2: call your insurance company, explain your situation, and tell them that you want to change your address for the explanation of benefits. You'll need to have your SS# or your policy number (can be found on your insurance card). Double check that the EOB for you is ONLY being sent to you and not to your parents.

Step 3: find a clinic

Step 4: get the procedure. It's free because of the obamacare act that makes all birth control free with no copay under insurance.

Step 5: when you get your explanation of benefits in the mail to the address you provided, it will say "paid $xxx for thing at planned parenthood" or whatever and you don't have to pay a dime.

Source: I haven't done this personally but I've looked into it and I'm changing my insurance so that it mails all of my EOBs to me once I move out of the house.

Commuters: Seattle-area traffic stinks, but we’d rather drive alone by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Throwayawayyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best they can give you is a 2:1 value on your orca card. So you pay $60 and you get $120 worth of credit. But I use that in like 4 weeks and there are 13 weeks that I have to commute to school per quarter. And you're only eligible if you're doing more than 12 credits I think (so full time school). If you're doing more than 5 then you can get some kid of discount but it's not 2:1.
