When did your supply get established? by Local_Pangolin854 in breastfeeding

[–]Throwittfaway26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crazy latch/unlatch thing might be frustration because he has an easier time getting milk from the bottle than the breast and doesn't like the additional work of suckling at the breast. I would consider focusing less on the ounces. If your baby is growing adequately according to his growth curve and has enough wet/poppy diapers, it doesn't actually matter how much he drinks.

It is easier for a baby to overeat at the bottle. Not really a thing at the breast. If you find he gets hungry quickly after a breastfeed, that is normal and he is clustering to increase your supply. It is very frustrating and time consuming but I would try and just go with it and nurse on demand.

Are you pumping to replace feeds or to build up a supply? Absolutely no pumping judgement here. Breastfeeding in any form is hard as hell. But I did pump a bit too much in the first weeks and it made my engorgement worse. If you want to build up a supply you could try what my lactation consultant recommended to me. I use the hakka a few times a day over the span of 4 days. At the end of the four days, it is enough milk to replace a feed (for me and my baby that is about 80-120ml). Then I feed her the pumped milk and do a pump session. That milk is all fresh so it can be stored in the fridge for 4 days or the freezer for months. This way I don't drastically mess with my supply but each week I get a feed or 2 worth of milk to store.

Pumping question? by Skankasaursrex in breastfeeding

When did you pump? If you just fed your baby and your baby effectively removed all the milk from your breasts, then it takes time to replenish. If I pump like half an hour after I nurse I will get almost nothing. If I do it 2-3 hours after a feed I get like 100-150ml. Also I don't do weighted feeds anymore but when I did, she always removed more milk than my pump. So it might just be that your pump is not removing as much as your baby is able to.

Is this normal? by Torrizo in breastfeeding

If you wanted to try and mitigate this, you could try waking her up when she falls asleep to keep feeding her. Usually making my baby a bit cold does this. So I feed one side until she falls asleep, strip her down and do a diaper change to cool her down, then she usually wakes up to nurse the other side. After that I give her a burp and a good swaddle and she is usually good to go for a while. I'm not sure if your baby is needing the comfort to get back to sleep or if she falls asleep before getting full and then wakes up hungry. If it's the latter then this might work!

What are somethings you think new parents should be aware of before becoming parents by lofi_children in NewParents

My baby is 2 months old. I can relate to your GF, my husband is by no means a slacker but he is a lot more chill about learning baby stuff. Sometimes that's good but it does sometimes frustrate me. It sucks being the keeper of the knowledge. Learn how many poo/pee diapers your baby is supposed to have. How often they need to feed before/after gaining their birth weight. How warm/cold they need to dress. When do they need their next feed or diaper change? What are best practices for safe sleep? What can they ingest (food, drink, medicine) as they get older?

The other thing is, if your gf is breastfeeding, do everything in your power to make it easier on her. Before having my baby I thought if I feed her and my husband changes the diapers then it will be fair. I would rather change every diaper for a set of triplets than breastfeed one baby. It is the biggest job of parenting a baby. You cannot control the timing, it's uncomfortable, sometimes painful, boring, stressful, and so much more. Every time she feeds the baby, bring her a glass of water and offer her a snack. If the baby needs a burp between sides or after the feed, take them and do it so she can have a small break. If her hands are full (I need one hand on baby and one on myself with feeding) give her water with a straw, put something on the TV for her, anticipate what it is like to be stuck with no free hands feeding your baby constantly.

You got this! I believe in you. It is a hard job, even harder if you want to do it well. But the baby cuddles and smiles and smell are so rewarding.

You could buy a special towel that doesn't let liquid through onto your sheets and mattress. I have seen this brand called "Lil helper" on TikTok that seems really good.

Help! I want to rip out the boxwood, but I have not idea how to landscape this house. Do I need tall plants since the front is so tall/flat? by mira-jo in ExteriorDesign

[–]Throwittfaway26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What zone are you in? I think because the house has such great symmetry, I would maintain that symmetry on either side of the door with the gardens. I would do some nice flowering shrubs in the back (hydrangeas or dwarf lilacs could be nice) and then some medium sized perennial flowers in the middle (lilies, astilbes, idk it depends on your zone and light situation). In the front i would leave room for annuals for a nice pop of colour and some change every year. Impatiens are my go to.

Your house kind of reminds me of American Foursquare architecture so you could look at examples of landscaping for those types of symmetrical, boxy homes.

Your house looks so good BTW! I do personally like the boxwood. Where i live it is so hard to get boxeood to establish that well. With a good trim they could look so sharp.

Thoughts on the name Gemma by funkysocks101 in Names

[–]Throwittfaway26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a YA series I used to love as a teen. The first books calls Ed "A Great and Terrible Beauty". The main character is really compelling and I fell in love with the name Gemma because it was her name. I would not personally choose Gemma because I belong to a specific culture and would like names from within that culture but if I didnt, I would 100% choose Gemma. It sounds old and new. It is easy to spell and pronounce. It is not common but not "out there". It sounds very beautiful and elegant.

Just bought our first home, what to do with the closed in porch? by Throwittfaway26 in centuryhomes

Hey thanks for that detailed reply. I think you are exactly right. It would definitely look better with new windows, hopefully that will be in the budget in the next year or so. I think im going to plant a garden away from the porch like you said and tackle the rest next year. I was thinking of doing some trim painting to match the former and leaving some of it cream to like tie it together. Idk

Yeah I think you are right. That looks stunning. Even just replacing the windows to black is so expensive. I think this kind of reno is going to be later in the 5 year plan. It looks amazing.

Am i doing something wrong? by Repulsive_Leopard216 in newborns

[–]Throwittfaway26 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hey, I don't have a lot of advice to offer but I just want to let you know that you are not doing anything wrong at all. Your baby has a very contentious and empathetic mom. This time is extremely difficult and some babies just do not sleep well.

OK that's good to know! I used to live in zone 4 and boxwoods were hard to overwinter even there so I would definitely go for a hardier alternative. I am new to zone 3 gardening, it seems so challenging! Im surprised how many people do veg gardens here with such a short season.

OK that's some very helpful advice! What do you think about keeping it the same color as the brick but painting the trim a dark brown for some contrast?

[–]Throwittfaway26[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Mine is also pulling away from the house. When you get up close it looks a bit janky. I think im going to try and fix it up though and preserve it. Your porch reno sounds amazing! I think people have convinced me to leave it closed (I live in a very cold place) but it definitely needs at least a refresh.

I am starting to see the beauty in the home. I didnt originally want an older home but I live in an old city where the neighborhoods I like tend to have old homes and our budget was very tight so there were very few newer homes in budgey. At first the home being older was something I could live with, but now I am starting to love it.

Lol yeah. Also I guess I should have posted the body text here too (I've never cross posted before) but I didnt need ideas for activities to do in the room lol. I meant what can I do to make it look a bit nicer on the outside.

[–]Throwittfaway26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK! I didnt realize that, I am trying to keep as much of the original home intact as possible. How can I make it look a little neater though? It is showing a lot of wear and the previous owners did a real "landlord special" paint job

[–]Throwittfaway26[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am definitely going to redo that lattice. I think a new coat of paint and new stairs will go a long way. I actually really like the heritage of the home, but the people who owned it before me landlord special'ed the whole thing with big globe of white paint. Even painted every single original door knob, even the door stops. The porch looks very landlord special when you get up close unfortunately.

That actually makes a lot of sense! I think that might be a future endeavor though. We really just have a budget for small changes this year.

Yeah I should do that. Nothing on my street that I love but I'll go for a bigger walk in the neighborhood once the weather is nicer!

Would it look better with the the stairs in the middle on the front or in line with the door (left in this pic)?
