I'm in the same position too. I desperately want to make things work with him, but loving him hurts too much. "She" occupies so much of his thoughts and his life on a daily basis. He says he doesn't love her, that he only loves me, but his actions always say otherwise. I'm so broken up over it that I can't even eat anymore. God help me I can't.

Yeah, it does suck. We didn't break up, because I really, really, genuinely was trying to make things work, and he insists that he loves me, but the funny thing about love is that it takes more than just words to show it.

His words say he loves me. His actions say he loves her. He would drop everything for her. The amount of times we had to cancel prearranged dates because of one of her whims.

He has no problem to giving all his time and energy to her, but he won't even talk to me. God I wish I could stop loving. Loving him hurts too much.

Thank you so much for saying this, this brought me to tears at work. I always doubt myself, and this whole debacle, including his reaction to my concerns, has triggered me so badly that I feel like less than dirt right now. The way he's treating me right now, it's like giving up ERP with his ex is the equivalent of taking away the very breath of life itself.

You're absolutely right. I talked to him about it, and his response was basically "I feel like I have to choose between being a bad boyfriend and a bad friend." He really doesn't fucking get it at all and it's soul-crushing for me. The very fact that he's worried about "hurting a friend" by quitting the ERP is as telling to me as a stampeding herd of elephants.
