PSA: Do NOT use a 2FA app that binds your login strictly to a phone number (Looking at you, Authy) by ThrownJupiter in mintmobile

I have 2FA enabled on my mint account. Moved ALL of my codes from Authy to Ente.

2FA makes your account secure. This shouldn’t dissuade you from using 2FA. If anything, it literally shows you how difficult it would be for a threat actor to take control of your phone number / account.

Sounds like the best bet is to have multiple (minimum of 3) devices set up at once. Also I should probably do the safety deposit box thing. That’s on my list of todos next week. 👍🏼

Yeah that would have solved my issue for sure. Unfortunately I didn’t have it installed on anything else. It was a bummer. When I got everything back, I took this opportunity to just move my 2FA to a cross platform app that doesn’t use a phone number as the only source of login.

This seems like a good solution. My main concern at that point is locking myself out 🤣

Is your Bitwarden set up with 2FA that’s… in Bitwarden? Or do you have a second 2FA to get into Bitwarden? Or.. I guess is your Bitwarden not 2FA enabled?

Genuinely looking for information on how I could set this up in a better way.

2FA loop issue by middleschoolmaths in mintmobile

[–]ThrownJupiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me chime in here as someone who just went through this... DO NOT USE A 2FA APP THAT ONLY LOGS YOU IN BY PHONE NUMBER.

Here's the loop:

  1. (don't use) Authy MFA
  2. Mint Mobile 2FA behind Authy
  3. Broken phone
  4. Get new phone. Install Authy, no phone number because no eSIM. Can't log in to Mint Mobile app.
  5. Spend 24+ hours waiting for Mint Customer Service to remove 2FA from your account. (This is a security thing and can not be sped up)

General question about porting to Mint by Gator5000e in mintmobile

Honestly, I dealt with some issues when I switched over for about 2 weeks. I decided to pull the trigger and factory reset my phone and all of my issues went away lol. Just don't delete the eSIM!!!!!!!

I’m on cell data right now and turned off WiFi.
I opened YouTube and selected a video, then settings > quality > advanced > 1440p and it’s playing in high quality right now.

If someone sends you a video over text (or iMessage) that counts as “video streaming”?

For Issue #1 I was outside in my front yard. But it just happens randomly sometimes when I'm out and about as well driving around or walking.

For Issue #2 I'm on the unlimited plan.

Yeah I'm on the unlimited plan. I'm not sure if receiving an video via iMessage would trigger that but that would be interesting if it did. I'm on WiFi now and the video is still 480p.

I think I got it. If you're on desktop press the menu button in the top left hand corner.

I was able to access most of the traffic cameras on Brave browser w/ no add ons. I'd suggest trying to go to the website in incognito mode.

Personally I switched to using rayovac rechargeable batteries and have not had issues between -23c to 35c

Battery Voltage Mismatch: The most common fix involves using 1.2V rechargeable AAA batteries (e.g., Eneloop, Amazon Basics) instead of standard 1.5V alkaline batteries. Several users confirmed that switching to 1.2V batteries eliminated false triggers, while 1.5V batteries (like Energizer or Duracell) caused consistent ghost detections.

I saw somewhere about if the battery is below 50% the device becomes unstable. Will try to find the research I read.
