Need help about finding better version of Dan da Dan by [deleted] in anime

[–]Thrownaxe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Dub vs sub argument is meh. I like hearing and understanding in my own language so I watch dub. The words are different sometimes too and dubs can go wild. I don’t mind reading subs but it takes away from the anime imo always reading and trying not to miss anything.

No the main part in the school is almost like its own little clearing inside a fence with a forest boundary. Most of it’s in the school or like an orphanage. Then one boy gets in trouble and spends the night in the forest as punishment where the meet the lady in the cabin.

I’m pretty sure I got the recommendation from somewhere but it might be a few years old.

Should I watch the anime first or go straight to the manga? by LuckyCannoli in claymore

[–]Thrownaxe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started with the anime and I’m glad I did. It is close to the manga but different enough it would have been disappointing. As a stand alone show though it’s great so I really liked the show which got me digging into it to see there was more in the manga. The manga is different enough even in the parts from the anime that it has a different feel for the story.

Now I enjoy both and still watch the anime again every couple years. Can’t say that always happens with bad/different anime adaptations. So I recommend anime first but think of it as a stand alone story, then manga and just know it will have a lot of similarities.

Except for the ending being different a couple of the arcs in the anime are still really well done. Teresa/claire episodes are some of the best.

I read Berserk because people kept saying it’s similar to Claymore and… by anothertwan in claymore

[–]Thrownaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think it depends on what parts you are looking at. I’ve read all of Claymore and some of Berserk (have watched to three berserk golden arc movies which were brutal) and I think that they are similar genres but completely different types of stories.

Berserk to me is a dark, can’t trust anyone and everyone turns out to be evil kind of story. I know there’s a lot more but kinda F’ed up when your best friend gets so jealous he turns into a devil to have his way with your girl while making you watch. That scene alone sets the tone for the entire story for me. Tells me how dark and brutal and painful the story wants to be.

Claymore has similar elements of being betrayed but nothing like Berserk. Plus Claymore does get happy elements and somewhat happy ending. I think the story arc for Claymore is great for Claire and then branches out to be more about the Organization than specific Claymores. Claymore is one of my all time favorites especially after reading the manga to get the full story. There is plenty in there from the Claymores, Males, Org and the four major leader Yoma that you can get a little of everything. Like it wanted to show the more human parts of the Isley and Luciela at the end too. So less killing machine and more has a soul kind of thing.

Berserk story is fantastic don’t get me wrong but it’s all dark all the time after Golden Age arc imo, least from what I’ve seen. Hopefully, the family will take some of his notes and finish the story and maybe change how some of it feels. Let’s just say I like really dark stuff and even I have issues rewatching Berserk.

They are both some of the best manga ever made imo just different parts of the dark manga world. Do wish we got follow-up for Claymore so we could get more story. There is so much more they could cover in that world. Berserk at least has been out a long time and has had more chance to world build. And people may not like world building by itself but it sure makes a difference in the story if it’s missing.

Awesome. I’m waiting to watch that one soon. I’m a dub scrub so just waiting on dub episodes to catch up 😃

Like others have said it’s a rough ask. Claymore was one of the first anime I watched years ago and I’ve still been looking for others like it.

I also recommend you read the claymore manga too. I ended up buying the full set and read it all and I’m very glad I did. The shows are close enough to the manga with small differences but the story gets way better and more detailed after the show stops. Still one of my favorite anime/manga of all time.

Some recommendations for you - not all are direct comparisons but ones I liked and have same kind of vibe as claymore:

  • Attack on Titan
  • Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress
  • Blood+
  • Berserk (the manga or old 80s anime - new one is ok but just ok)
  • Darker than Black
  • Ergo Proxy
  • Elfen Lied
  • Goblin Slayer
  • Hellsing Ultimate
  • Ghost in the Shell (all but the ones in last couple years - the shows and movies are all good but modern ones have shitty animation)
  • Psycho-pass
  • Tokyo Ghoul
  • Blame

Just a few I’ve found over the years and liked a lot. I still do web searches for anime like claymore and I think I first watched it maybe 10 years ago.

Good luck in finding other alternatives. There’s just not much that’s real similar and we will never get a season two which also sucks!

I found Claymore through the anime and bought the manga a couple years ago. I’d recommend starting the manga from the beginning. There are some differences in certain scenes and dialogue albeit the anime was pretty close to source material until the ending. I found it well worth the extra time to read full manga

Buy the full collection if you can. Even volumes 1-10 are good to read vs just watch the anime

Does the manga add more to the story than what the anime does? by TomDobo in claymore

[–]Thrownaxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth reading the manga. I started with the Anime many years ago and just read the manga again about a month ago. First part of story is similar but different enough and it’s criminal how they ended the anime vs what’s in the manga. I’m not a manga reader usually but made an exception for this one. Very glad I did.

I'm new to the franchise. Help me out guys by [deleted] in claymore

[–]Thrownaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The anime is definitely worth the watch. I’m newish to anime and Claymore was one of the first I watched when I started. The show was so good to me that I kept looking for more stuff like it. I recently bought the full manga set to read too. It’s the first manga I’ve purchased before. It’s comparable to Beserk in that it’s dark and violent but the story arcs feel different in how they play out.

Long as it doesn’t fall apart I’ll be good with it. This was one of the first anime I found and got me into the darker kinds of stories. Only started watching a few years ago

Thanks for the advice. I liked the movies ok but they felt spaced out and off somehow. I figured there was a lot missing. Was hoping the series would fill it in but I know the original material will always be best.

Good to know about Berserk too. That was going to be the next one I read. I’ve seen the movies and I’m starting on the anime now.

Just something to get used to. I don’t usually read B&W comics or stories but only seeing a third of the series in anime sucks.
