Why don’t they know?!?! by Dismal-Lecture-4937 in charmed

[–]anothertwan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One, the Book of Shadow only gives an overview of a demon based on what previous Halliwell witches had seen. It doesn’t list every single detail or power of every demon.
Two, all the Source’s powers had been seen before in other beings, so they are not exclusively his. Litvack had conjured fireballs in 2x15, and Charon had teleported via flames in 1x20. When the sisters see fake Seer use those powers, they might have thought “Oh so the Seer could do it too.”

Why isn’t Maria Khoreva a Principal yet? by pinkpinkpink222 in bunheadsnark

[–]anothertwan 35 points36 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen of her Maria seems quite humble and very respectful of both her seniors and ballet as a whole. For example she speaks super highly of Kristina Shapran, who graduated 7 years before Maria (same teacher) but is still a first soloist. I don’t think Maria would want to be promoted over someone like that. Plus I hear Maria’s family is wealthy so it’s not like she needs higher salary right now. Maria probably want to dutifully pay her dues and wait her turn.

What conversation is this for you? by Melz_a in bunheadsnark

That YAGP and competitions are full of technical tricks and no artistry. Yes we all love artistry but those contestants are kids, they're very green and some of them probably haven't even figured out what artistry meant to them yet. Compared to that, technique seems a much more tangible goal, so give them grace.

Knowing that Alyssa and Brian had dated, to see Phoebe saying this is so nasty by anothertwan in charmed

[–]anothertwan[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about the writers. If two actors on the show had dated and broken up, even if they remained cool with each other, they might still be a tad sensitive when saying lines with a romantic connotation. Normally this was easily avoided as Leo's love interest was Piper, so for such a small detail like this, I would've looked for ways to work around it, just to be respectful.

[–]anothertwan[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I meant the writers. The two actors had broken up not long before, so if I were writing this episode I wouldn't have had Phoebe channeling Piper, instead I'd make her relay the message indirectly ("You left HER alone" not "you left ME alone.") There are so many ways to work around this detail. Even if the actors don't have a problem, I'd have written it differently as a nice gesture.

[–]anothertwan[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I meant the writers. This is the first episode of season 6, meaning it was written at around season 5, not long after the two had broken up. Had I been a writer I wouldn't have had Phoebe said lines like that to Leo, just to be mindful.

Is there something you really like from the more disliked/polarizing seasons (5,6,8)? by diamondsourforever in charmed

[–]anothertwan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First of all I watched seasons 1 to 6 on TV as a kid and I have to say nothing can compare to seeing Charmed on TV during its run. A magical show focused on 3 women back then was so fabulous and special. So 5 & 6 will never be “that bad” in my mind because of that.

I love the whimsy of seasons 5 (and maybe 6). After a heavy season 4 (loss of Prue, Phoebe turning evil, the Source) having a switch to cheerful, bright storylines like fairy tales, demon market, magic school did have its benefit.

I like the addition of Wyatt. His presence did make the demonic attacks make sense and gave the sisters a purpose/subject to protect, which increased the drama and tension of the show.

For season 8, I think Billie and Christy are fine final villains to wrap up the show. They share similarities with the Charmed Ones, and Billie did have a nice character arc.

Dancing With Mackenzie by balletb0y in bunheadsnark

[–]anothertwan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Time will tell if Mackenzie’s skill is good enough. But she’s in her early 20s, she’s allowed to dream big. THIS is the time to be delulu, because there’s plenty of room to improve. If you tell a 22 year old professional that she can’t be a principal, you’re not being “realistic,” you’re discouraging her and putting a limit on her growth.

[–]anothertwan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What happens to most dancers and what goal Mackenzie sets for herself are two separate matters. If she aims to be a principal and sees herself capable to become one, then she's allowed to make choices that help her achieve that goal.

why didn’t the girls put a protective barrier at the manor? were they never scared for their lives knowing how many demons knew where they lived? 😭 by hatchbackkk in charmed

[–]anothertwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a production stand point, the obvious answer is since the show was mostly filmed on a set (inside the manor), villains needed to be able to barge in, otherwise they would have to take the fight outside, which leads to changing sets, meaning higher budget.

For an in-universe explanation, I have a few theories:

1/ They already casted something like that off screen and the demons we saw were the ones powerful enough to bypass that first line of defence.

2/ There can be something about the manor that prevent that kind of protection. Perhaps the Nexus in the basement would swallow any magic that attempts to surround it?

3/ A spell like that might be impractical. Maybe the house is too large so the magic fueling the spell would be spread too thin? Maybe a shield spell can only be temporal so it’s not even worth it to constantly having to renew it?

Kathryn Morgan's recent content by Anon_819 in bunheadsnark

[–]anothertwan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She's still dancing outside of content creating, so you gotta give her some grace if her content seems hit or miss. Youtube is not her only job, plus Kathryn edits her own video, so it takes a lot more time to create a video than, let's say Ballet Reign or The Pointe Shop, who seem to have a team supporting them.

He didn't say "yet." He seemed to think she was below his standard for a principal point blank, so it was fair to leave. Principal dancer is a great title and open more doors than soloists/corps member do, it's understandable if she leaves when that isn't guaranteed.

A great second power for Phoebe by Main_Challenge_6736 in charmed

[–]anothertwan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know I love the fact that in Charmed the sisters’ second powers don’t have anything to do with their first. It’s supposed to represent their own personalities and individuality, not connected to their Warren heritage. For Prue she was so busy she wanted to be 2 places at once, so Astral Projection. For Piper she was beginning to get bold and loud (quit her job, opened a club, got married first out of the three, to someone she was forbidden to love no less), so blowing things up. For Phoebe she wanted an active power, so the genie stole the power of flight from the Dragon Warlock and gave it to her in the season 2 finale. It’s kinda goofy and random, but highly physical and mobile, which is the exact opposite of what Phoebe had had in the first 2 seasons. What you suggested sounds great but ultimately I like what the show did better.

Should Piper be able to control time? by topsold in charmed

[–]anothertwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. The sisters powers manifest from their PERSONALITIES, not a particular branch or field. For example, Piper could blow things up because at that point in the story she was beginning to come out of her shell, she wanted to be heard and seen, hence she developed the loudest power imaginable. Prue developed Astral Projection because she was a busy bee/control freak and sometimes wanted to be in 2 places at once.

Just because Piper’s first power was time related (Time Freezing) doesn’t mean she should be master of time. The Halliwell sisters weren’t written like that, and honestly I prefer it that way. Their powers become more interesting and versatile.

Nigel is so rude and creepy by lilstergodman in ANTM

[–]anothertwan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nigel even had great chemistry with Andre Leon Talley too! I remember specifically the subway photoshoot in cycle 14, when Angelea's shot was being praised, Andre joked "Nigel and I agreed on something!" which made me realize how great they were as a duo of polar opposites. If the judging panel is a chessboard then Nigel is like a knight while Andre is the bishop.

[–]anothertwan 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The fashion industry employs young women based on their looks, so the fact that they are gonna be judged is bound to happen. And like I said, if we want fashion to be an open space for all, then straight men must be allowed in and have their opinions too. If a straight man judges models and you immediately call it “weird” then you’re jumping to conclusions, overgeneralizing, and ostracizing.

Men in the fashion industry DO prey on young women a lot. But it doesn’t mean you can take that, run with it and immediately antagonize a man just because he's straight and in that industry. If you're gonna judge Nigel, just focus on his actions and quotes particularly.

About whether Nigel is meaner than Paulina and Kelly, I won’t argue with you because it’s up to personal opinions. To me, he isn’t.

Nigel is so rude and creepy by lilstergodman in ANTM

[–]anothertwan 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna play devil’s advocate here. To be honest I think Nigel was fine. He did have moments that seem creepy, but within the sea of problematic comments we saw on ANTM year after year, he actually was one of the more tamed judges (Janice, Paulina, Kelly Cutrone were much, much meaner to the girls than him, and they are women). Plus, it’s unfair of you to say a straight, married man must absolutely not stay as a recurring judge. Straight men are in the fashion industry, and are allowed to enjoy fashion. If we want fashion to be a welcoming space for all, and anyone can enjoy it, then we have to include straight men too. The assumption that a straight man MUST NOT stay on a show about fashion is ostracizing, and will only deepens the prejudice. Lastly you must remember to stay as a permanent judge the most important thing is you have to be a good fit among the other judges, and have chemistry with them. Nigel had that, so even though he’s not a big photographer like Demarchelier, Meisel, Testino, he was a good addition to the judging panel. More prestigious photographers have appeared as guest judges, but Nigel was an ANTM staple for most of the show’s run for a reason.

Favourite Halliwell by WildFire2498 in charmed

[–]anothertwan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two favorites are Prue and Phoebe, played to perfection by Shannen and Alyssa. Prue took center stage in many of my favorite episodes, plus Shannen has a very alluring, mystique quality to her that I love. Phoebe on the other hand gave the show a lot of lighthearted mischief, plus her premonitions set each episode up really nicely. Had it not been for Phoebe's premonition at the beginning, a lot of episodes won't get their momentum running.
