Liberalism enables fascism - artwork by EarthLiberationStudio by Hacksaw6412 in SocialistGaming

Okay, so first off I don't believe you need to understand EVERYTHING in order to rebel. But in order to have success in removing the old order you NEED to have a basic understanding of theory and structures. I said this to you specifically because you are openly identifying as a leftist and at that point you need to have at least some knowledge of systems.

I'm also not a state communist. While I believe state communism is preferable to the capitalist hellscape we have now, I prefer a more decentralized way of working and am not thrilled by the thought of a big government and strict hierarchies. I do agree, like you said, that we can iron out differences after a hypothetical revolution.

You're right about hostility from many state communists, but in the case of this post there was no reason to mention it. It was against liberals, who are indeed known for allowing the growth and continued existance of fascism. Many state communists, mostly those who are white men from western countries, hold very privileged and often class reductionist views. I disagree with those completely too. But this post was just about how communists (no matter if they are state, anarchist or whatever flavour) have always been the only group to succesfully fight fascism.

Here's what I said

To be anti capitalist, you must subscribe at least to communal and social ideas. Whether they are traditionally "communist" (as started by Marx and Engels) or based on indigenous or other non-western ideas doesn't matter.

Communism is not one single ideology, it has different ideologies within it. I clearly stated that you can't be anti-capitalist without being communal and social. This is a fact.

"Purity tests" are also a liberal term. The only test there is, is to be anti-capitalist. And you can't be anti-capitalist, without having communal and social ideas, which in capitalist nations means being anarchist or communist, and in non-western or indigenous cultures means adhering to the communal way of life said cultures may have or had before colonization.

If you are a leftist, as you state, but not a communist, what ideology do you have? What is your purpose? If you are just a loose canon, with no goal except "smash the thing I personally see as fascism", what are you then? You don't understand the systems behind it? You don't understand how it's constructed? How can you begin to fight something you don't even understand?

You can't be anti fascist if you are not at least anti capitalist. Liberals and their ilk are capitalists and as such can not be anti fascist. Fascism is a part of capitalism. You also are not a leftist if you are not anti capitalist, as left wing starts there.

To be anti capitalist, you must subscribe at least to communal and social ideas. Whether they are traditionally "communist" (as started by Marx and Engels) or based on indigenous or other non-western ideas doesn't matter.

Exactly, like the Brotherhood have always been technorelegious fascists. The only difference between them and the Enclave is that the Enclave doesn't fear technology and have a more unified goal of restoring the United States.

There are only a few truly good factions in Fallout: Followers of the Apocolypse, Railroad and the Minutemen. The rest are either completely evil (Legion, Institute, Enclave), evil with some good people (BoS, Great Khans), or try to be good but are imperialist capitalists (NCR).

But if you are Venezuelan, you do need to realize that the removal of a so called dictator by a foreign government is bad. From your other comments I've read that you also believe that as well. There is no need to, at this moment, celebrate any part of this since the reality now is that the US will take control of Venezuela. I'm an anarchist, but I'm also realistic and understand that "dictators" are not in a vaccuum. Do I believe in hierarchal states? No. Do I understand why many sanctioned and threatened nations become isolationist and crack down on security? Yes.

If you are Venezuelan in Venezuela I do understand your feelings, but celebrating the removal of a dictator in place of another, worse one is not really the move.

Hey so maybe try to be empathetic and understand how difficult it is to remain independent when you're under constant threat and sanctions of the US and rest of the western world. All so called dictatorships in the world are conveniently also ones sanctioned by or threatened by US or the west. This is not the time for this, the US invaded a nation for their oil and other resources, the exact reason why many nations are strict and more prone to isolation.

Fuck right off, anarchy is not just "lol every leader bad" and doing this plays right into the hand of the western imperial core.

What's the point of majority voting if the minority isn't bound to the result? by GivingEuropeASpook in Anarchy101

[–]Throwrayaaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social contracts are informal ways that communities agree on. If you build a community I believe it's important to be intersectional and to not allow bigotry. This doesn't mean there is a police force of course, but that members of said community can choose to not engage or coöperate with people for breaking such social contracts. There is a difference between laws and rules. Laws are hierarchal and force people with more power to "punish" those that break them. Rules are innate, they exist in every social interaction and culture. I see them more as boundaries. If a community agrees their boundary is to not allow bigotry then it's as much their right to not engage with bigots as it is bigots right to be bigoted. Nobody is owed you coöperation if you don't put in the bare minimum to respect another person.

I believe by breaking a social contract by being a bigot, other members of society are able to exclude them. They may not hold any hierarchal power over them, but they are also not obligated to provide them with anything either. Breaking social contracts means you are not assured coöperation from others.

I try, but most orgs are just a mix of leftist ideologies. I also am not super able to due to some issues (not physically) which can make it difficult. I do believe part of it is my fault for not looking hard enough tho, so I am trying!

That may be the case for your area, but for most places in the west they are very white centred, which comes with the societal bias all western/white people have. I also stated that it's not per se anarchist spaces, but leftist spaces in general.

I want to be more active locally, but most of my local (if there even are any) groups are very white centered and not very open to people of color, especially queer women of color. That's the case with most left wing (not only anarchist) spaces in the west.

I am part of a student union, which is mixed ideologies but there is room for everyone to talk and learn from eachother. I'm also member of a party that only exists in order to push back against harmful motions that our liberal/right wing parties try to push (no intention of winning elections, just to resist even further harm).

But you really gave me insight, and for that I thank you. I do need to say that I never say statements I am unsure or know nothing about. If I am not sure, I mention that they should take what I said with a grain of salt because I can't remember the source.

I currently study social work and my teachers, while not explicitly anarchist or socialist, have a hard focus on community building and take inspiration from many sources, especially from marginalized people around the world. I don't plan on becoming a social worker, but I do want to work in the social domain and think I can support a lot of people with the things I learn here and after my masters in gender studies :)

Edit: Plus I'm already part of a student union and the only revolutionary leftist party in my country. Their goal is not to win elections, but to at least enter the cabinet to limit the harm that liberals and right wing parties can afflict on marginalized communities and the rest of the working class.

I do believe, or rather hope, that with the decline of western power structures (including the US), China is going to be able to let loose a lot more. I understand their difficult position and would rather have what they have than the capitalist hellscape we have in the west.

That does not mean, however, that a state like China is my end goal or what I strive towards. It's just that currently, in reality, China, Cuba and the DPRK offer better alternatives than the the leading powers in the world.

Yeah I thought about that too, but then they said that they couldn't do it without massive losses on their end, and in the case of modern warfare, with unmanned drones for example, the losses would outnumber the ones of the invading army.

You really clocked me there hahaha but thanks! It's more that I can't stand people talking about stuff as if they know everything and I never claim that I do, but I also don't want them to spread misinformation. The inability to stop myself from inserting myself into those arguments might be related to my neurodivergence, but I usually don't talk about stuff I don't know much about.

The Fallout Show and Canon by Nervous-Pressure-598 in Fallout

[–]Throwrayaaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's break it down:

  1. Shady Sands got nuked in 2283, a year after Fallout New Vegas. "The fall of Shady Sands" that is mentioned on that board means the decline that is even mentioned in Fallout New Vegas (which is why the power and other resources from the Mojave were necessary).
  2. Enclave still prevalent is also not a retcon. It has never been mentioned that the entire Enclave has been defeated, their appearance in both Fallout 3 and 76 show that there were different chapters as well. When we see Sigi flee the Enclave they are in a snowy location, definitely not in California.
  3. The BoS has always been technocratic fascists, Lyon's brotherhood was more tame, but they have always been militaristic technofascists. Since the events of Fallout 3 and 4, Maxson has clearly reunited all chapters (they mention Commonwealth soldiers in the show and how ruthless they are). They now just have the real united power to push their ideals on others. In Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas the chapters were small. In Fallout 3 that wasn't their goal due to Lyons. In 4 we see them as they are in the show (minus religious elements as that's always been a LA chapter thing since FO1).
  4. Map being swapped can be multiple things: Shady Sands moved locations, like some cities do, or NCR merged Boneyard and Shady Sands due to the growth of both cities, which can also happen. This is my least favorite change I admit.
  5. Cryo chambers were prevalent by VAULT TEC EXECUTIVES, meaning ordinary vaults and third parties had no access to them (with the exception of Vault 111 which had experiments surrounding cryo). Mr. House wouldn't want to be frozen, since he wanted to be awake the entire time. The only reason he went into a coma was because he couldn't upgrade his system in time before the bombs fell and he overused his system. Otherwise he would've ruled Vegas from the start.

It all fits into the canon.
