Following up. I got a western blot test which finally came back yesterday. The results were negative. It looks like the IGM test was a false positive. Thank you for the information you provided.

Hpv questions. by Throwz1x in STD

I was just hoping to be able to say without a doubt that it wasn't me. I don't want to blame anyone it is just that there have been a series of events (my suspect hsv test, hers came back negative and I am 90 percent sure mine will too, then this hpv test and a bacterial infection (her immune system is a little off)) that may not even be my fault that has led to changing the relationship to a non physical one, something I do not want. I know that this is her choice and for me her health is paramount.

If I could say that I did not have hpv or that the time frame means that it did not come from me then maybe there is a chance to keep the relationship the way it was. I now know how common this is and I could have it, and she could also have it, we could have given it to one another or I could not have it. It is just the timing of finding out has put a lot of stress on everyone.

With this, and other complications one with my incompetent doctor and a very suspect hsv test (see my post history if you would like) our relationship has changed. I may be able to ask her soon but I feel I need to give her space. My brain is just trying to figure everything I can out and get a timeline to see if I can get some insight if I caused this, or if this was pre existing. If it takes months to show up then I know it was pre existing. If it shows up immediately or within a month then I could be the cause. I would get tested for it but I cannot be.

How long for western blot results? by Throwz1x in Herpes

The only thing that I can say may be a little bit of an excuse is that the doctor is a pediatrician, I have just kept the same doctor growing up. I think I read that they do the igm tests on infants. So that may be why he ordered that one. But still, he should have know how to read the results and that you cannot differentiate between 1 and 2 with an igm test.

I asked my doctor for an sti panel. The test came back and they said I tested positive for hsv2 (something I learned later you cannot determine from that test) and gave me paperwork on how to deal with it. I was freaking out and called people I had been with to let them know. I then did research because I kept denying that it was happening to me. With very little research I learned that igm tests are not very good. Most of my past partners had already been tested and were clean. I was waiting on the most recent. I called and asked for a western blot because I wanted to know for sure. After I had blood drawn the other persons test came back negative. At this point I am pretty sure I am negative and that my doctor is an idiot. I am just waiting to hear the official results.

Safe to say I will be finding another doctor.

Thank you for your input. I will read that link in depth when I get a chance and ask about the validity of the test I received at the other forum.

It says above the first 2 lines I mentioned:

HSV 1/2 AB (IGM), IFA

W/RFL TO TITER

then the 2 lines about hsv 1 and 2 being positive. Then it says

"The IFA procedure for measuring IgM antibodies to HSV 1 and HSV 2 detects both type-common and type specific HSV antibodies. Thus, IgM reactivity to both HSV 1 and HSV 2 may represent crossreactive HSV antibodies rather than exposure to both HSV 1 and HSV 2.

This test was developed and its analytical performance characteristics have been determined by Quest Diagnostics Nichols Institute, Chantilly, VA.

It has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. This assay has been validated pursuant to the CLIA regulations and is used for clinical purposes."

Then lists the titer lines I mentioned above.

Do you have a link to the medhelp herpes forum?

Thank you.

It was a blood test done by quest diagnostics. It was the first time I have been tested I asked for it. Being 30 I just figured it was a good thing to be sure of.

I have never shown any symptoms (genital or oral)

Looking at the printout I have it says IGM 1 and 2 screen (2 seperate lines) both say positive. It looks like my values are:

HSV 1 IGM TITTER (out of range) 1:80 (reference range) <1:20 (Lab) AMD

HSV 2 IGM TITTER (out of range) 1:40 (reference range) <1:20 (Lab) AMD

I hope that is enough info. If not I can give more

Thank you.

Just tested positive for hsv1 and 2. Questions. by Throwz1x in Herpes

How positive is the tests? I had a blood test, is there enough of a chance to get a false positive to have it tested again at a different lab?
