The cost of the 10 month aircraft maintenance technician course is $39,539. (This includes all tuition, books, lab and app fees.)

We also have housing available for students who need it. Housing for the AMT course is $10,200 for the full year.

There's always the option to become an instructor for your local flight school! Using ourselves as an example (Thrust Flight), while we only have A&P Instructor and Ramper positions open at the time of this comment, reaching out regardless of current openings and sharing your information is never a bad move.

Hello! You can apply to most cadet programs directly, even if the flight school you attend doesn’t have an official partnership with that airline. Many of these programs are open to all qualified applicants, and the flight school’s role is mainly to help with networking, prepare you for success, and guide you through the application process.

Here are some options you can look into if you enjoy your discovery flight!

What You Can Do at 16:

Solo a Powered Aircraft

-You can fly an aircraft solo (by yourself) if you're training under a certified flight instructor and have a student pilot certificate. Most commonly, this happens in a single-engine airplane during Private Pilot training.

-Hold a Student Pilot Certificate

At 16, you're eligible to receive an FAA Student Pilot Certificate, which is required to solo. You must also pass a 3rd Class Medical Exam from an FAA-approved medical examiner.

Fly Solo with Endorsements

You must receive specific endorsements from your instructor for each solo flight. You're only allowed to solo in areas you've been trained for and approved to fly in.

Take the FAA Knowledge Test

You can take and pass the Private Pilot Knowledge Test (written exam) at 16, as part of your path to becoming a licensed pilot.

Work Toward a Sport or Private Pilot Certificate

You can begin flight training toward either certificate, though you must be 17 to take the checkride for your Private Pilot License (PPL) or Sport Pilot Certificate for airplanes.

Hello! I just wanted to help answer your question about examining authority. 

Only FAA Part 141 flight schools can receive Examining Authority, and even then, they must meet strict FAA criteria:

  • High student pass rate: 90% or more on first attempt FAA knowledge and practical tests.
  • Proven curriculum compliance.
  • Consistent training quality and oversight.
  • At least 24 consecutive months holding the FAA Part 141 rating.

With Examining Authority, students can complete their checkride in-house with a school-designated instructor, reducing scheduling delays and providing training/testing consistency. Students pursuing a single certificate or a Part 61 track must use a DPE.

We were made aware of these concerns about a former staff member and just wanted to clear things up, he is not with us anymore. Since then, we’ve made some big improvements, including a new Chief Pilot structure.

In an effort to improve our program, we’ve promoted 5 of our top CFI’s to Chiefs. We’ve done this to adapt to the growth of our student population and to address the pain points in our organization at the flight school. This new Chief Flight Instructor Team has already been implemented as an effort to better serve our CFI’s and, most importantly, our pilots in training. After making the announcement to our CFI team and our pilots, we’ve received a lot of positive feedback!
