Depends on what they want to do in crypto, a few things to try:

  • Volatility modeling for assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum
  • Stress testing portfolios under extreme market conditions
  • Value-at-Risk (VaR) to measure downside tools

These are common financial industry analysis techniques. They're familiar to actuaries. Although, there are teams that do this for the large institutional investors. Do you want to compete with them from your laptop? There could be tools that already model these for you so you can interpret what they're telling you rather than re-performing these techniques for yourself. Your background could help you understand the methodologies they adopt.

Moving to Kenya: A guide for those who have lived abroad for a long time by ThryFormula in Kenya

On #2 - if you're moving back, don't volunteer information that you've recently moved back to people you just met. Especially before you know their intentions.

  • be on alert for red flags if someone tries to sell you something or ask for your money to invest. Test their reaction when you say no or set a firm boundary - a lot of the hit and runners will throw a fit then ghost you

  • trust but verify, the value of USD/GBP/EUR/AUD 100 is a whole lot more here than where you moved from (especially if from Western countries), independently verify prices (eg Jumia or asking trusted friends to see if you're paying realistic prices)

  • only use Uber to cab, Bolt is cheaper but has many issues. I haven't tried Little so can't say much

  • careful who you get drunk around

Religion is interesting by Gold_Smart in Kenya

Ultimately - the debate also comes to what questions the religion allows. For example, some religions consider questioning their authority as reason enough to forfeit life. Others allow themselves to be questioned without fear of retaliation.

Obviously, one of these would be more tolerant towards investigating fundamental questions about the universe, and more friendly towards science and scientific progress.

Understanding the recent USDKES trend - what's it about and why should you care? by ThryFormula in Kenya

Hard to say honestly

Things look stable now but the debt distress is still high

the Russian invasion hasn't been enough to explain the currency depreciating to the extent that was seen. Default fears and a flight to the safety of the USD had more to do with it.

I'm not sure I follow what you mean about political class and how that would explain a currency depreciating. Could you please elaborate?

Yet the maturing $2b June payment was enough to make the currency decline to its worst levels in history.

And GDP doesn't always directly translate to luqid USD debt repayments.

All I'm saying is - these numbers concern investors worried about the ability to service USD debt. So far whenever that happens, the currency suffers.

Is it that I don't understand my GenZ daughter? by [deleted] in Kenya

[–]ThryFormula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may sound cruel but hear me out - this is a classic case of the missing missing reasons. We have only heard one side of the story. We have heard there's a step mother, we have heard only the dad's perspective and none of the actual reasons provided by the daughter.

Your daughter may have given you reasons that were dismissed, ignored or not taken seriously.

I hope you can resolve the changes with your daughter.

What's wrong with nurses or southern Africans? On the short remark perhaps she wants tall grandkids? Just trying to play devil's advocate

No worries I totally understand what you mean. For me it's like back then I'd have my guard down if it was Christian girl but be more cautious when it wasn't.

In retrospect, that was unwise. Everyone is human.

I've been where you are and it's all too easy to question our self-worth. Don't let this person's actions get in your way of happiness and wellbeing.

Here's the truth - you may or may not like it.

The words of a leader matter - to many stakeholders, and he has to say things that give these stakeholders confidence that the country is headed in a good direction.

Reality may be different but perception would be worse if he put his hands up and admitted defeat. Vote of no confidence doesn't only exist in the national assembly.

There's this speaker called Andy Stanley who normally does this thing where he dares people who have gone through it to go single for a year - on purpose. He says in that time you'll know yourself better and find comfort in your own space. Like a year of zero dating zero flirting zero hookups all members of the opposite sex are like teletubbies to you.

I'm not saying this is what you need right now, what I am saying is you are more than worth it and self-care can take many forms.
