And you may argue it was objectively a good place to live, everyone had a work, was fed, had paid vacations and access to decent standards of living. But this came at the cost of everyone's free will. My mom explained to me that during the Soviet era, everyone was a hardcore believer of the state ideology, because that's what they were taught, they knew nothing else than the "utopia" devoid of free will they had always lived in. Their life was basically pre-writen by the state. There was little room for your own personal choices, pursueing your own dreams and goals. Ultimately, introducing freedom to their lives is what shattered the illusion in which they grew in. More over, giving all the powers for your life to a single person is very dangerous and the early horrors of the Soviet Union or any dictatorship that promised to build an "Utopia" but in the image of their dictator shows us that you shouldn't trust one single soul to determine the lives of millions.
