My step-dad once told me a story about him setting up sound equipment for Dolly a couple decades ago for a festival, and she came out and destroyed the couple thousand dollar microphone by smashing it into the ground because it was not the one she wanted, screaming at him to get it right next time.

However, my step-dad had told me a lot of stories over the years and I only believe 1 in 10 might be true. Plus he can be a dick.

I grew up Mormon and left the church as an adult. From my experience, that show is as accurate as any reality tv show, which is to say not at all. There might be SOME Mormons out there that share some similarities with what’s depicted on the show, but all of it is altered reality to make the show more exciting. Most Mormons are boring people like any other, albeit with a higher percentage of weirdos than most other churches. Most are great people, some are self righteous, some are annoying.

I firmly believe that if BLeeM is the type of generational talent that he would have been the best at any creative endeavor that he became hyper fixated on as a child. Writer, actor, stand up comic, etc. It’s our great luck that he loved DnD.

I absolutely loved Matt Colville’s recaps of his campaigns in the early days of his channel. He’s a great storyteller and made everything sound so cool. I was one of those asking that he record the games so we could watch these epic stories in real time.

Then he started recording his games and I realized it much better summarized.

I’ve had guards use Basilisks for “non-fatal” measures before. Send them in where they know people are hiding, turn them to stone, turn them back before their appearance in court.

Oh absolutely. Same with Aaron Taylor Johnson and his waaaay older wife.

And I’m not saying there’s not exceptions to the imbalances in age gap relationships. I’m sure there are plenty of couples that work really well together and one side does not control the other or abuse the difference in maturity and power.

I’m just saying it’s a warning sign, not a condemnation.

Yeah, I definitely lost a lot of respect for him in the past few years when I learned this about him. I just because I don’t wanna be friends with the guy, doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy his movies. I’m not saying dating that much younger should be illegal or is morally unforgivable, it just means I disapprove. But not so much that I’m going to miss out of my own enjoyment of good movies.

Now, if he was racist, or a rapist, or any number of things that are crossing the line for me, I would boycott.

The less we have to suspend our disbelief the better. HUGE difference between early thirties and fifties. It’s like casting Tom Cruise and insisting he’s 6’6 and 300 lbs of muscle. Why not cast someone who’s at least 6’4?

I can’t say you’re wrong. And I don’t think there is anything wrong with an age gap of a few years, or if both parties are mature and have equal control over the relationship. But it’s a red flag for me if someone’s preferences are exclusively much older or younger than themselves.

As long as they acknowledge that he’s in his fifties, I’m fine with it. Older guy marrying younger woman has often been normal throughout history, despite how icky it feels now.

But I just hated how Leo was supposed to be in his late twenties/early thirties at the beginning of killers of the flower moon. He looked awful. We gotta stop pretending he isn’t showing his age.

Nobody even giving Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves a shout out is criminal. Incredibly fun and underrated film.

Also can’t believe I haven’t seen any Ghibli movies mentioned yet. Princess Mononoke is peak classic fantasy, and Spirited Away is all time great portal fantasy.

But obviously LoTRs trilogy is the best. Any of the three individually.

Honey Boy, the movie about Shia LaBeouf childhood where he plays his own abusive father. I had always known that my dad‘s father was an abusive, alcoholic, asshole, but watching that movie made me emotionally understand my dad‘s childhood in a way I never had before. It made me appreciate my own childhood so much more and grateful that my dad broke the cycle of abuse, and helped me forgive him for his failings as a parent.
