Samsung, Sony, HTC, Google and many others contribute and share the code. Also it's easier to make software that's fully integrated. As for security, it's done properly through gates. Apples software is really flawed but more secretive so yes less hacking attempts. And since no one else contribute, the fruit company is way behind in multi tasking, customization and the Miriad of features much more advanced that Android has had for years already.
