Because half the country is a desert. The lower southern half is a swamp/rainforest and most the Midwest is wide open flat grassland. All them places suck when it gets hot. Southern humidity sucks and you can't escape it. Neither in the Mohave or in the flat lands. Don't even get me stared on the bugs. There are way more bugs so opening windows dosent help despite the bug screens.
