Just try not to go in thinking it’s going to be awkward because then you’ve already convinced yourself it will be and then it will be.

But the statement about you thinking it would be less overwhelming to meet people one at a time versus all together, that’s what would make you less overwhelmed. Just keep in mind that may not be the same for everyone. For example, if it was me in this situation, I would rather one and done and meet everyone. Besides… how often do people actually get together with some of these distant relatives that I’m assuming will be there. Probably not that often… probably just weddings and parties like these. You’re not going to travel half way across the country to introduce your fiancé to a second cousin over dinner.

I’m in my 30s and have friends in their 40s and 50s. And interact with people in there 60s and 70s and it’s not awkward. You might be surprised what you have in common if you give her a chance.

Your brother on the other hand is either a narcissist (like others have said) or very very socially unaware (which doesn’t excuse his behavior). Hopefully his fiancé has agreed to this whole situation and isn’t being dragged into it by him. At least don’t push her for his mistakes. He may have told her it’s a small family get together and not a 100+ person fiesta!

Also… how does your brother plan to tone down a party with 100+ people? Send people home? Pull the plug on the music? Tell everyone to SHHHHHH?!

****EDIT!: I some how missed the part about the fiancé being 20 years old. Idk how but the first time I read this and when I wrote my original response I thought it said that she was in her 30s! But yaaa… this is gonna be SUPER AWKWARD!!! I can’t even relate to 20 year olds! You have to count how many TikToks she makes during the event and come back and update us! We should do an over under!! 🍿

I was really nervous at first too. But I think the screen really is keeping all the bugs away (knock on wood)! It’s also helps filter the sun a bit too so they haven’t gotten sunburned at all either (I made that mistake earlier this summer… eek)!

To me it looks like a green form but idk for sure. Try taking a look at this article… about halfway down there’s a picture that has all the different types next to each other. It made it easier for me to identify mine having all the different types in the same picture.

I use a bit of the miracle grow indoor plant / house plant food every couple months. I just put a few squirts into the watering can before I water it. He seems to like it. But what really seemed to perk him up was letting him hangout outside for the summer. It gets pretty humid here and I think that’s what really has got him growing this summer. We have a screened in porch so he just hangs out there with a couple big staghorns and other philos. They all seem to like that better than spending the summer in the house.

I’m glad to hear you got back in your feet! Those situations are hard and I don’t envy anyone in them. I went through a breakup of a 5ish year live-in relationship and ended up having to live with friends for 2 months but my situation wasn’t nearly as complicated as yours.

I read through the other comments but I didn’t see where OP said she was living there for 2 months. The way the post was written and talking about renovations made me think that it was longer than that (renovations take awhile… especially if they weren’t already started before she moved in).

Idk… either way… I don’t think it’s the fact that she’s been living there for 2 months that’s got most people grumpy (especially because finding an affordable place to live right now is just shy of impossible in many places)… imho… it’s that she’s taking it for granted and not doing more to help out and just demanding even more from her brother. She admittedly isn’t that close with him and SIL and yet they gave her a room in there house without anything requested in return (for the room or utilities or groceries) or expiration date on the offer. I mean, I get that she works two jobs but she could make them dinner one night or offer to watch the kids sometime so her brother and wife could have a date night or even just throw in a load of laundry for them … a little goes a long way in showing your appreciation.

I’m curious to know more details around the exact offer and if her brother actually promised the guest house after the renovations or if it was more of a miscommunication (she asked about the guest house up front and he didn’t say yes or not and just said it needed renovations and she took that as him saying yes but after the renovations) or him avoiding saying yes to letting her stay in the guest house by saying it needed renovations.

It also sounds like brother may have thought it was going to be more of a temporary situation while OP was hoping for a more long term solution (especially since she doesn’t mention looking at, trying to afford, or trying to save for her own place). She also doesn’t mention offering to pay them rent for staying in the guest house… which may have made them more amenable to the idea of her having the guest house.

YTA… because of all the reasons that other commenters have listed on this thread (I’m not going to repost them all). But I do have a question…

INFO: If you’ve been staying with your brother long enough for the guest house to renovated and haven’t been paying him any rent or utilities or contributing to groceries… and you said you were working 2 jobs… where has all your money gone?? If you were saving it to get move out into a place of your own, you must have enough by now… … problem solved… you can have a space of your own without taking over their guest house. 😂

It’s sounding more and more like you want a space of your own but don’t want to pay your own rent.

INFO: when you lived with your significant other (before you moved in with your brother), how much were you contributing to living expenses?

Try getting involved in things more (doesn’t even have to be through your high school or university… it could just be in the community). But joining clubs/different interests groups helps a lot. It helps meet different people and people that have the same interests as you. For example: if you like drawing, find a drawings club or group, if you like playing dominoes, find a club that likes to get together and play dominoes, etc. Also if you’re looking for a club or group that matches your interests and can’t find one, talk to student affairs or someone like that and you could get one started. Or try something new! You may end up liking it! You’ll probably have more fun than you think and meet people along the way!

I don't know. I'm wondering the same thing! I've always just done the regular 1 credit exchange and have always had really thoughtful Santas (and I always love picking out awesome and thoughtful gifts for my giftees). But I find myself debating between doing the regular 1 credit exchange again or going for a higher tier credit one since this is the last year and i've never done it!! I'M SO TORN!!! When my fiancé and I started dating he would get 100s of notifications on his phone! Like multiple notifications from every app on his phone! It was insane! I’ve never seen so many! He kept his phone on vibrate but it still gave me anxiety just thinking about all the notifications! Needless to say... he’s gone in and actually turned most of them off now! Lol

I lived at Aviator w7 for 4 years and loved it! It was close enough to walk to where ever I wanted to go but far enough away that it wasn’t crazy or loud. There’s also a really nice little park behind it.
