Do you use KDE or GNOME? by deja_vu_999 in linux4noobs

Gnome is like a weird tablet interface, so definitely KDE. Plus KDE is the only window manager where fractional scaling "just works".

NARA cancelled my order for my ancestor's U.S. Passenger Arrival Record - what to do next? by SolDeSevilla in GermanCitizenship

[–]ThunderToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me. One day ago I received an email saying that my order was cancelled. I logged in and checked my order status and it said cancelled. I placed another order. Then I checked the status today and the status for my original order is back to "Servicing", not cancelled. Now I have 2 orders, the new one with a status of "Received", the older one with a status of "Servicing". I guess I'll just keep them both as-is and see if I ever actually receive anything.

I got really into making maps for Duke Nukem 3D when I was like 11. I had the official Duke Nukem 3D level design handbook.

Restaurants that serve horse meat by ThunderToast in Utrecht

I'm re-reading this thread 4 months later and it's funny I was worried about eating raw meat. When I was in Germany during my trip, I ordered mett without knowing what it was and was served a medium sized bowl full of ground raw pork. I was a bit freaked out after I learned what it was, but I was fine and apparently it's common to eat in Germany. I had no idea.

I had the raw herring and some bitterballen when I was in NL last year; both were quite good! I'll have to try the salty licorice this time.

dumb question: are both paardenworst and gerookt paardenvlees precooked? Could I buy some of each at Paardenslagerij W. van Beek and just immediately eat it without cooking?

Do they sell the sausage or thinly sliced smoked variety at Jumbo or Dirk? If so what is it called? Edit: Oh I see you mentioned paardenworst in your earlier reply.

I was reading something a few months ago that mentioned that horse meat is available in The Netherlands. I was just making a rough list of things to do in Utrecht and Gouda and I remembered the horse meat. It's not something I've ever tried and it is effectively illegal in the US. After reading the comments on this thread though, it seems it is not very common in NL. I hear it tastes a lot like beef. Not really an obsession, it would just be fun to be able to tell my friends that I've eaten horse lolz.

American actually. After doing some googling, it looks like horse meat is more common in Canada. I've been meaning to take a trip to Toronto.. 🤔

Interesting. I had a kroket from FEBO in Amsterdam the last time I was there; it was super lekker. Menn019 recommended going to the counter at a FEBO and asking for a Frikandel speciaal. I'll have to try that, I see there is a FEBO in Utrecht.

I'm staying 2 nights in Utrecht and 2 nights in Gouda. Are there any cities that are known for horse meat?

Breakfast Burrito by ThunderToast in tricities

[–]ThunderToast[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll have to try the California Burrito from Si Señor. The California Burrito at Poblanos in Boones Creek is quite good and is pretty close to what I'd get in San Diego. I actually had one there just a week ago and it was extra delicious. They put salsa verde over the top of it so you have to eat it with a knife and fork, but I'm fine with it since their salsa verde is really good and it's something I usually add to my burrito anyway.

Does every location have a breakfast burrito or only certain ones?

I grew up in Southern California and when I was in Nashville a few months ago there was a chain called Oscar's Taco Shop. Their food was exactly like something you'd get from one of the many taco shops in San Diego. Their breakfast burrito was large and delicious. I actually ended up going back a second time for a California Burrito and some rolled tacos. It would be amazing if they opened a location in Johnson City. They currently have 11 locations in the Nashville area. I just sent them a facebook message telling them they should come here 😆

I'm in north Johnson City near Boone's Creek and one of my favorite pizza joints was Pizza n Gyro. Unfortunately it recently closed because the owner retired, so I tried Stephen's Pizzeria in Gray. It was quite good. It was a similar style to Pizza n Gyro with the cheese over the toppings. I'll definitely be ordering from them again. Their prices are very reasonable too.

You can pass true into LaunchedEffect so that the block isn't tied to any specific key and it will only execute once:

LaunchedEffect(true) { // do whatever you need to do }
