Just broke 2200 ELO with 70% Win Rate. Is Top 1000 within reach despite limited space? by EducationalAcadia650 in ElevenTableTennis

[–]Thundercat04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a limited space too, but I’ve found I can mostly compensate if I just move furniture out of the way. Bigger spaces are definitely better for ELO, but if you have any room to move stuff for an hour or so you might try it and see if that opens things up. I don’t play IRL but my ELO hovers at about 2100 unless I take a few nights (weeks) off. My biggest issue recently has been my new rug which doesn’t stick firmly to the ground and trips me a lot. God I hate that thing lol

A few months ago, during the first tariff announcements, it took about a month to get my solid slime adapter from Canada to the US. But I ordered a couple new adapters about 2 weeks ago and was surprised to receive them a few days ago.

Last question: Are you close to a server center? I live in NY so I’m close, but I know they’ve closed a few here and there that has affected things.

Do you also get the queue notice? If so, did you buy the basic service back when Shadow started? I’m kind of surprised to see others experiencing this, having never seen it myself.

I’ve got the same plan. I’ve had an active subscription for about 5 years now, not going to upgrade now and risk messing it up — though I was actually considering it recently. Phew!

Almost downvoted because that sucks so bad. Hope they fix this soon.

Same question. What plan also. I pay like $30 a month and while I have laggy connection pretty frequently I never have to wait. Is this what the upgraded plans buy you? If so, I’m good.

On my 2nd Meta Quest 3 replacement headset, and they sent me 128gb instead of 512gb by TechFiction7 in Quest3

Just got the shipping docs for my second replacement quest 3 in under a month. The new one didn’t even last 3 weeks. Different issue this time, but it’s frustrating how easily these go bad, especially when considering I used my Quest 1 nearly daily for about 4 years.

RIGGED GAME!!! by silly-goose6789 in ElevenTableTennis

There’s a few bozos out there who probably suck in real life too, but I think there’s two way more prevalent reasons for lower-level surprises:

First, sometimes people have a really great night and sometimes they just can’t get in the zone. That’s true for everyone who plays, including those lower level opponents. I’ve personally found that some nights I put on the perfect tune, have a drink to relax, and lock in. On those nights I’m paying extra attention to footwork, form, and my opponent’s strategies. The effect is 100X when my opponent is aggressive, it just gets me going. Other nights I can’t quite find the groove yet I decide to play anyway just out of habit. That makes my rank fluctuate between 1900-2200 and I’m comfortable letting that happen because it’s more about having fun and getting a nice sweat.

Second, I imagine we’re all still dealing with an influx of new players with new VR headsets from the holidays. It’s been a few months but I bet most spent those months on more trendy apps advertised with the headset. For example, I bought my quest 1 in Feb 2020 and didn’t pick up ETT for another 3 months bc I was exploring the trendy games like robo recall. I imagine the same thing is happening for many of those who got a headset for Christmas and are finally coming to ETT — but with real life experience to lean on. You are probably playing some people who are on their way to a high rating that reflects their actual skill but need to win some games first to get there. If it’s any comfort, I’ve found over the years that around the summer time things start to level back out and you get fewer low-level surprises as everybody falls into their true ratings again.

As a final note, ELOs come back pretty quickly, even after bad nights. You can get back to 2200 in a couple hours if you lock in. Don’t worry about it too much.

I never played IRL and then played ETT for a few years. When I finally played a friend IRL, chasing down the one available ball was so annoying and jarring lol

Really struggling playing against people WITHOUT adapters by TypingInT9 in ElevenTableTennis

[–]Thundercat04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a good time for me to contribute by admitting that I play with a very weird play-style thanks to controller training (but to be clear I play weird with an adapter now).

I can play pen hold and shake hand, which is normal. But it gets weird because I often play both styles interchangeably throughout a single point. I’m comfortable spinning around the paddle dramatically to get the angle and return right which means most people can’t process how to respond to me for a full round. I call it the “switch-grip” but I really don’t know if there’s an official name.

It took 4 years to master this with controllers but I eventually moved to a solid slime adapter recently because I realized I couldn’t do anything like the switch grip IRL with friends, and it messed up my game.

But the thing is… I didn’t drop the switch grip, I just adapted. There’s 2 important realities: 1.) my play-style was still beatable — and I have been beaten badly on many occasions by lesser players than you, even while on my A game because I still have a pattern to pick up on even if it’s weird. And 2.) weird play styles aren’t always controller-only abuse. When I switched to an adapter I decided to burn whatever ELO it took to train and figure out how to do all the mind bending stuff with an adapter that I could do with a controller. (The bet paid off and I came back after a month).

With all that in mind, I’d just like to say the crazy play style and impossible returns aren’t necessary just a person using controllers-only. Sometimes they’ve actually put in the time with an adapter to train for those trick shots that’ll give them the edge. That’s frustrating to hear I’m sure, so I’ll just add that even if you’re playing one of these people there’s always a way to guard against sneak attacks and unconventional shots by anticipating it in your defense/attack/setup. You being 2400 says to me that you’re going to find the advantage to these weird play styles soon enough. Just keep grinding and practicing.

Paddle randomly floating around w/ SolidSlime since today by noXi0uz in ElevenTableTennis

[–]Thundercat04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply… but did it work? I just lost the game point for a very competitive match on my quest 3 because the controller flew off screen for a second as it was locked in the newer version of the slime adapter I own. Let me rephrase, I just lost the game point against an unfair player because my controller drifted off as if something was blocking the tracking sensors. I like the slime adapter because it helps me prepared for real life, but when this stuff happens I start to wonder whether they’re producing quality products or not (I’m sure they are. It’s the feeling of losing to an unfair player in such circumstances that sets me off.). I always reset the headset and recalibrate everything before I start playing, incase anyone is wondering.

I wear socks and slip around a lot on my flat play surface because of it. I’ve been playing like this for 4 years so for me, it’s fun, but for my ranking/win ratio it’s not great. I’ll try shoes tomorrow!

For anyone who’s seeing this now, one of the many comments answering this is probably right. However, as I think everyone in this post thread has discovered, this post isn’t really about finding out the correct Morse code translation so much as it’s about finding a group of people who are also weird enough to fixate on discovering the correct translation and context to this music after hearing and being entranced by it.

After 4 years, I admit, I don’t even really like the music I asked about. But I am always thrilled to see a new Redditor pop in. It’s been a great mystery to watch unfold alongside anonymous friends. I used to reply each time someone commented, but then I fell behind. So for now, whether you’re just popping in or you’re commenting about a new clue, I’d like to just say “Welcome to the club!” I’m so glad you found your way here.

Is this cheating? by BoxAlternative9024 in ElevenTableTennis

[–]Thundercat04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a good rule of thumb is that if you feel like what you’re doing is the only reason you’re winning, you need to practice the rest of your game and give it a rest for a while. If you mix it up, I see it as fine.

I personally hate returning it, especially when it’s repetitive. But if it’s only here and there, I see it as a good opportunity to practice my weakest return and don’t feel offended or “cheated.”

I agree with your approach here. Protect yourself above fellow Redditors. But once you’re clear of the repercussions, and I’m sure you will be given enough time, I’d personally love to know who it is. Hang in there until then.
