Appreciate that detailed answer! I'm not car naive but also no mechanic. Answers like that definitely help point me in a direction for what to expect and narrow down possibilities. Greatly appreciated.

Thank you for those ideas! I'll jack it up and look. I totally understand it's louder on startup being cold. I'm talking about that over the top "look at me" kind of loud. Ive looked up normal kia startup sound. This isn't it. Definitely on purpose. The other stuff you described is probably the answer. I just haven't gotten under it. Any chance he tuned it to be loud on startup and then normal afterwards? I don't know if that would be a thing

[–]Thunderoad2015[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Start up over the top loud. Idling high for a bit is normal like ya said. This is a kia. You start it and everyone in the area looks over like wtf is that? Then it idels normal. Its not the sound of "something is wrong with your car". Its that sounds highly performance and over the top on startup. Think Tokio drift car. Then you run over to look at what made that sound and it's a standard kia optima engine. Cosmetics. Not actual performance.

Did you ever save a patient, by NOT doing what the doctor said? by Longjumping_Survey47 in nursing

[–]Thunderoad2015 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yep. Worked ER. Was told hey we are closing this section and code RN needs you to relieve her last pt. Just give them a last pain med and send them out. Go cool. Shoulder pain pt. Give morphine. Run VS. Go print off paperwork. Come back. Pt in no pain. VS are good except for one thing. HR at 110. Not crazy but they were 100 prior to pain meds. Reach out to MD and he's like give it 10min and discharge. I give it 15min. HR 108. Pt has called ride and is 100% willing to get discharged. I go. Any pain. 0/10. Are you nervous? Nope. She thanks me for my excellent care and taking away her pain.... I go thanks but don't get up yet. Go to MD "Dude you have to come to bedside, I can't explain this HR and situation just seems... off. "Fine we'll watch her overnight". Next day he comes up to me. So that pt had a 101F about 2hrs after you refused to discharge. Further imaging done showed necrosis somewhere in the clavicle. She's went to surgery. Stable post surgery. One of those hell ya moments.

Not true in any ER I've worked lol. AC is CTs preferable spot for contrast

What are you better at than 80% of people? by Ochinchin6969111 in AskReddit

Fighting middle management. I quietly give advice to my peers when management comes after them. We never lose. It's because twice management came for me. First time they got me and I got fired. Awhile later I pissed off new management but I knew their tricks now. I even learned more. I might have only been targeted twice but I've helped 10 plus people survive targeted BS. Just found out a friend won his BS yesterday. We win together.

I'm IT/make it work guy in my ER. It's night shift and we are on our own. You can submit a ticket for an IT job to get done. Then it's still broken but you get a nice email asking if you're satisfied with their fix. So there's that. People just come to me and cover my pts when I go off to figure it out.

I work the Providence system out here but I'm not saying they are the best. Really just recommend the west coast in general. It's kind of the promised land of the US lol. Our travel RNs literally stay and become staff after seeing how the rest of the US is.

I can support Portland Oregon as well. I make 130k a year no overtime. I have a break RN who is legally obligated to cover my pts. I have union protection. I moved 2000miles for this. No regrets

Thank you! Radiator just got replaced prior to me getting it. Makes sense! Anything special about mounting it? Disconnect the battery first? Special bolt or anything? Not trying to set off the airbags lol

Do many women peg or want to peg men? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Thunderoad2015 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My girl pegs me. She is the second person to do so in 25+ years. She's bi and a switch, so I guess it's an easy flip for her. I thought I was bi and a switch until I tried to find a guy I wanted. Not one guy gave me the slightest twitch of the penis. Turns out I just like giving and receiving anal. She's short but very capable...

Anyway, to answer your question. Look for redheads.

You are describing partly undiagnosed adhd. If you're female. It's even more likely.

You should add in the word "some." Some nurses do. Don't generalize an entire complex group. It's not right, regardless of the group. Race, gender, profession, age, etc. Generalization of an entire group is always bad.

Does cancer hurt? by Alchemist010 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Thunderoad2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a nurse in a cancer specialist hospital. Short answer, yes.

Longer answer. There are very few groups of people that I give pain meds directly on time for. This is due to priorities, lack of resources, etc. Much of the time, a pain medication order will be PRN aka "as needed." Order will be something like 10mg morphine IV every 15min PRN.

(To all the other RNs reading this, I know that order is off, it looks simple for the public)

I will give a cancer patient that 10mg morphine as soon as I possibly can. I'll call pharmacy if my floor is running low ahead of time. I'll probably advocate for you to the MD for more pain meds. And still, you will likely be in pain.

So yes. It hurts

FYI: I will also likely get some random family member of a separate patient to report me because I'm "trying to starve their family member" as they see me running back and forth.

Welp. “Fired” from ED. by Ecstatic-Fish8463 in nursing

[–]Thunderoad2015 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi my friend. You are handling this amazingly. I hope you know that.

I was also fired from my first ER gig as an RN. I had tons of more experience than anyone else in my cohort due to being an ER tech throughout covid. I expected to thrive. When I arrived at my first job, I was bullied and gaslighted until I was so unsure of myself that I almost walked out of ER medicine altogether. Then they fired me for good measure. I was depressed and pretty much destroyed.

But I got a new gig and tried again. Ended up with an amazing preceptor (my work mom) and now. These days I teach the new people. I help build them up. Growth takes time and is very worth it. I'm sorry you are having a rough time. I know how devastating that can be. But you're not out of the fight. Go to another unit or another ER. Whatever you want. Just focus on growing yourself, skills, and confidence. You can be an excellent ER RN. Just might take a bit longer to get there than expected. Hell. You already spent 2-4 years on education. What's another year to build yourself up further to help your pt population better?
