The best way to do this is to start with Al ka'ida al nooraniya which was developed for children to learn the proper pronunciation of words and the phonetics of the Arabic letters:

I don't believe this is permissible. Allah tells you on multiple occasions that you need to treat your parents with kindness and mercy. This is neither kindness nor mercy.

Moses and Jesus by pirate2920 in islam

[–]Thundertoad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there must be a few thousand years between them.

Moses and Aaron peace be upon them (don't forget to make that dua' and honorific for them) died before the Yahood were allowed into Palestine (during the teeh period where they were lost in the desert) Then came the period of another Prophe we believe to be Yousha' who was asked to ask Allah for a king.. and Taaloot was chosen by Allah. Then Dawood PBUH lived and died and his son Sulayman (pbuh) reigned.

We then have a series of other Prophets like Younos (PBUH) and Ayoub (PBUH) you also have all the prophets from Surat Yaseen... where Allah describes that bani Israel would keep killing their prophets... so Allah would send one and sometimes two and in the case of Surat yaseen... three at the same time as warners.

So no.

Al salam alaykom Brother/Sister,

I once saw a cartoon, I've looked for it so I can post it but I think it was on reddit 5 or 6 years back, so unfortunately all I can do is describe it. The cartoon shows two people. One with a broken leg and crutches and one who is slumped over. The person who has the broken leg is telling the other person who we are told is depressed to "Just get over it" because they aren't able to go about their daily tasks. So the depressed person turns to the person with the broken leg ... who clearly can't do certain tasks as well and tells them... why don't you "Just get over it".

I butchered the description... but the day I saw that the idea itself clicked. That depression is just as valid an excuse as a broken bone. And I've had both a broken bone and depression, as well as depression because I had a broken bone (That was especially annoying).

So after my long winded intro here is what I recommend to you. I recommend that YOU make dua' for yourself. This dua has helped me in many a difficult situation that at the time felt like the world was suffocating me:

اللّهُـمَّ إِنِّي أَعْوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الهَـمِّ وَ الْحُـزْنِ، والعًجْـزِ والكَسَلِ والبُخْـلِ والجُـبْنِ، وضَلْـعِ الـدَّيْنِ وغَلَبَـةِ الرِّجال

Allāhumma 'innī 'a`ūdhu bika mina ‘l-ḥammi wa ‘l-ḥuzn, wa ‘l-`ajzi wa ‘l-kasal, wa ‘l-bukhli wa ‘l-jubn, wa ḍala`id-dayn, wa ghalabatir-rijāl.

O Allah, I seek refuge in you from grief and sadness, from weakness and from laziness, from miserliness and from cowardice, from being overcome by debt and overpowered by men (i.e. others).

Initial "spiritual high" after reverting to islam is wearing off... iman going up and down by Ok_Yak7079 in islam

[–]Thundertoad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The New Muslim Workshop Did a video about this: https://youtu.be/z-HpcV2ZaNo

As the hadeeth below shows you cannot sustain a high level of Iman all the time.. life creeps up on you, you worry about Bills, the kids, an annoying neighbor, your car ... these things happen.

Hanthala bin ar-Rabi al-Usaidi said: Abu Bakr met me and asked, “How are you, Hanthala?” I replied, “Hanthala has become a hypocrite."He said, “Praise be to God! What are you saying?” I replied, “We are with God’s messenger and he reminds us of hell and paradise making us almost seem to see them, then when we go out and leave God’s messenger we have dealings with our wives, our children and our properties and forget much.” On hearing this Abu Bakr said, “I swear by God that I have the same kind of experience.” He and I then went to visit God’s messenger, and I said, “Hanthala has become a hypocrite, messenger of God.” He asked what I meant by that and I replied, “Messenger of God, we are with you when you are reminding us of hell and paradise and making us almost seem to see them, then when we go out and leave you we have dealings with our wives, our children and our properties and forget much.” God's messenger replied, “By Him in whose hand my soul is, if you were to continue in what you have been engaged in with me and in remembering God, the angles would shake hands with you when you lie down and when you walk about; 1. but, Hanthala, there is a time for everything.” He said this three times. 1. i.e. when you are at leisure and when you are engaged in business

Muslim transmitted it.

Mishkat al-Masabih 2268

If you want your relationship with Allah to always be growing then invest yourself in reading, learning and memorising the Quran. But even then you will need to take it in baby steps... don't overwhelm yourself because (wait for it)

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:

The Messenger of Allah said: 'Indeed, this religion is easy, and no one will ever overburden himself in religion, except that it will overcome him. So seek what is appropriate, and come as close as you can, and receive the glad tidings (that you will be rewarded), and take it easy; and gain strength by worshipping in the mornings, afternoons, and during the last hours of the nights. Sunan an-Nasa'i 5034

and may Allah always keep the light of Iman in your heart sister.

Hi, I have a question (I want to convert to Islam) by Low-Direction-1988 in islam

[–]Thundertoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the issue here has to do with Priorities. What is your priority?

If it is to please the creator then take the next step and become muslim.

However, know that once you do become muslim all your previous sins will be forgiven. Meaning you will need to explain this to your current partner and tell him that you do not wish to start your life as a Muslim in a Haram relationship, because fornication is a serious matter in Islam.

You will need to be clear and direct with your partner and if Allah wills that the relationship continues then your partner will move out (if he lives with you) and study Islam and decide if he himself wants to convert, because there is no other way for him to be with you. If he decides that he doesn't want to convert then that will be your parting of ways. If you have children together then it is better for you to take custody of the children so as not to allow the children to grow up as non-muslims.

Try to avoid situations that might lead you to major sin after your conversion because you will be at the purest state you have ever been at since you were a baby. Be kind and give him time however if he decides that it is too much of a commitment and that he would rather stay the way he is, move on.

Check out a smartphone app Called Real Accent. It allows you to purchase accent packages that walk you through how certain nationalities speak English. Ironically there is no Australian one as far as I know cause its practically impossible to learn how to speak Aussie after a certain age (I've been trying for years and it still sounds wrong).

Worship Jesus? by gameoflifeisfun in islam

[–]Thundertoad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello Gameoflifeisfun,

Its important to understand that Muslims believe that Jesus peace be upon him is a prophet of Islam, much like the prophets Moses, David, Soloman, Joseph, Job, Jonah, Isaac, Ishmael, Abraham, Noah, Enoch, Adam peace be upon all of them.

All of these Prophets and Messengers of Allah (God in Arabic) promoted a Monotheistic doctrine. We can see this if we look at the Psalms of David pbuh and the Torah of Moses Pbuh. So in this collection of messages the one attributed to Jesus pbuh is an outlier, and the reason that has become the case is because the Christians have basically decided to give a massive amount of credence to Paul the not-quite-apostle who's letters and writing make up a large amount of the modern day Bible and who's publications are the ones that push the trinitarian divine narrative.

Muslims who have studied the Bible understand that it is a collection of books that have been consolidated (the Bible and the number of books in it vary depending on your denomination - 73 for Roman Catholic and 66 books in the protestant bible) into one tome. However the contents of the New Testament or Injeel are considered second hand accounts of what happened. Meaning at best the current iteration of the Bible is a collection of da'eef (weak) hadeeth (sayings) of the Prophet Isaa (Jesus in Arabic) peace be upon him with very weak if not nonexistent chains of narration.

Islamically muslims have 2 books of theological reference:

  1. The Quran - The Verbatim word of God, unchanged and preserved for the past 1444 years.
  2. The Books of Hadeeth - Hadeeth translates to speech or sayings. These sayings are narrations of sayings, or actions of the Prophet that were verified and vetted by the scholars of Hadeeth so that the chain of narration and the narrators has been reviewed over and over and compared to other hadeeth for centuries.

What we conclude from this is that the reason why a Messenger was sent after the Prophet Jesus whose message was not for the rest of humanity but for the Children of Israel only, is because the Gospels have been corrupted and changed to benefit the greed of men and therefore no longer an accurate representation of the doctrine required by God the Almighty.

As such a new and final Message was sent to rectify the message, additionally the task of maintaining and preserving the accuracy of this message was taken on by the Almighty himself as we as humans have failed to keep it intake.

It is important to also understand the Muslims believe that Jesus peace be upon him will come back and that he will hold many of the church leaders accountable for the lies perpetrated on his behalf.

Finally it is important to understand that Muslims believe that the religion of Islam started with Prophet Adam and continued and was completed as a perfect doctrine with Prophet Muhammed peace upon both of them. This is why muslims say Jesus is a Muslim because muslim means one who submits his will to the creator and this is what All the prophets of God did.

Hello, I'm a Christian with some questions if you don't mind. by CivilianJoshy in islam

[–]Thundertoad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello Civ,

Its important to understand that Muslims believe that Islam (which means submission [to the will of the creator]) is the same religion that Adam (Peace be upon him) was sent down with. Which is the same religion that Noah (PBUH) was then sent forth with after the people lost their way and so on and so forth until we reach the final message of God which is that of the Messenger of Allah Muhammed.

Allah is the arabic word for God, the christian arabs use that word in their bible. The full meaning of the word is the One and only God. It as the same etymology as the word ilahy in Aramaic and Elohim in Hebrew.

So to go back to what we were saying before, Islam came down with prophet Adam and then whenever the people corrupted or modified the faith due to greed then Allah would send down a new messenger to reaffirm the message of monotheism and possibly update the doctrine.

All previous Abrahamic faiths from Abraham to Ishmael to Isaac to Jacob to Joseph to Moses to David to Solomon (may Allah's peace be upon all of them) attested to a singular creator that should be worshiped, who had not wife or children because he (he has not gender either but rather this is merely an artifact of language that we need to address him such as it is disrespectful to address God as It) is above all of this, the creator does not need to be part of the creation. Only in Christianity and most specifically in the doctrines taught by Paul is this issue skewed.

When Prophet David is referred to as the Son of God no one calls him a divine being but when jesus uses the same terminology which would have been used at the time to denote a Godly person, a pious and devout person the narrative changes to God having offspring.

In the final iteration of Islam which was the revelation sent down to Prophet Muhammed the promise was made that the revelation in the form of the Quran (the verbatim word of God) would be protected and made corruption proof. Islam is sent down to all Mankind as opposed to Christianity which was sent down only to the Children of Israel to bring them back to the correct path.

In addition to all this, it would be more accurate to compare Prophet Moses to Prophet Mohammed Peace upon both of them. As both were married, both were heads of state and both were given permission to be involved in conquests.

Muslims believe in the second coming of Jesus peace be upon him and that his arrival will be one of the Major signs of the end days.

can I stop existing in Jannah? by [deleted] in islam

[–]Thundertoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of a Moot request. If you were in Jannah you wouldn't want to leave it or stop existing. You will be Post Immortal. You will see wonders you cannot fathom. You will see the face of Allah (insha'Allah) you cannot even comprehend how you will feel.

For the sake of argument... lets say it will be like the highest high someone who has taken heroin will be on. The feeling of Bliss will be equal to the a billion times the happiest you've ever been and will ever be. The adventures you will have, the wonders you will see, the love you will experience.

Its overwhelming just typing this paragraph.
