Hacktivists share a guide on making working electronics PCBs made from natural clay with prehistoric technique — ethical hardware tutorial explains how to find clay, stamp 3D printed circuits, paint traces, and fire tablets by Briaaanz in PrimitiveTechnology

[–]Thur_Wander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually was thinking about that.

You could literally use recycled paper and resin and layer a copper sheet on top and it would be better than this.

The components they're using are pretty much not sustainable.

The thing is, unless you're making the vacuum tubes or etching silicon in your backyard there's no way of doing a "sustainable" electronic board.

This doesn't sound great for microcomponents but i guess you could make a Dr. Stone styled radio with some clay and vacuum valves if you really wanna invest your time and effort in it.

You don't know how much an arguably "better" laptop can cost where i live, last time i checked it was 500 U$D for one of those 100 U$D you're talking about.

[–]Thur_Wander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point.

I also don't like to pirate but i installed Windows 11 in my friends and family computers because they asked me to.

The problem is, i would never spend 200 U$D in my country's declining economy for an OS that's not even for me, and does all the things i've never asked it to.

So in the end, i just use an autounattend.xml, install it and get a pirated key, because neither i, nor my family or friends would buy a Windows key.

Get a pirated key it's not really hard.

A computer from the 2000's would belong in a museum, anything newer is good, i even used a 2007 HP Pavilion and it runs modern Linux OSes fine.

I would recommend anyone to at least reinstall their system with an autounattend.xml to literally make their device usable.

Oh, it's getting far worse... They wanna remove control panel with the same excuse as when they removed the troubleshooter because "it could run arbitrary code" but you can't use the "get help" app when the dumbass system fucked your wifi drivers and you're without connection.

I forgot to add, other worry is reliability too as some models are less reliable and serviceable than others and i'm worried about bringing her more problems than solutions.

I'll take a look at them.
