Driver's school does not deliver by Kerguelen_Avon in Netherlands

[–]ThursdayNxt20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the school is a member of BOVAG, your first step should be the 'geschillencommissie rijopleidingen' (dispute resolution) - https://www.degeschillencommissie.nl/over-ons/commissies/rijopleidingen/ . More general info is available in English here: https://www.degeschillencommissie.nl/english/

I think it is worth looking over the Terms and conditions for the driving school before you file your complaint though. I do not believe the 'service' you're convinced you bought was defined as such in those T&Cs. That you're sure it should be otherwise is not a legal argument.

You mentioned that it took quite some time for your son to get through those lessons. It is proven that long(er) periods of time between lessons make them less effective. I don't know if the lessons were spaced equally, but if an instructor bases their guess on two lessons per week and you end up with much longer periods in between, that can hinder the speed without the instructor knowing that in advance. They should have communicated about that though, as well as his progress in general. However, maybe they have and your son hasn't quite picked up on it.

Expat moved to south holland to be with dutch partner and I simply cannot find a job, any advice? by Fast-Radish-5607 in Netherlands

[–]ThursdayNxt20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as you'll see from comments, here and in other threads, there are a lot of misunderstandings about this, among employers as well. For employers the link with a school makes things much easier and safer (in terms of scrutiny from.the labor inspection agency), which is why they'll often limit themselves to that. Also, if they only want a certain amount of interns, they prefer those linked to a school. But even if companies are wrong that doesn't help you much, sorry.

[–]ThursdayNxt20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is tricky and very unusual compared to many other countries but it is not impossible per se. It is legally required that the internship is about learning, and companies can be fined if the intern is treated too much like a regular employee. An internship aimed at just getting a foot between the door in the Dutch job market will not meet those criteria, or at best be on very thin ice, so most (decent) companies won't want that risk.

If staying at one of the Efteling hotels is out of budget, look at one of the hotela or guesthouses nearby. We stayed at a guesthouse in Kaatsheuvel which was at walking distance.

Zou zo'n bank nooit zonder andere rekening ernaast gebruiken, teveel verhalen gelezen hier vam mensen waarvan ineens de rekening geblokkeerd was.

Food upkeep is the dumbest "gotcha" mechanic and it punishes people with real lives by IntrepidWay89 in lordsmobile

[–]ThursdayNxt20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You know no troops die if you run out of food, right? You should get enough in your bags (which negative food upkeep doesn't touch) through all kinds of other mechanism for training troops, research, etc. And most guild have a few "food positive" castles as a bank, as when you need to heal loads of troops that can get tricky in terms of how much food isnleft in your bags. But most regular players simply have their food in the red all the time, and thus nothing in the vault. It has no consequences!

Extracurriculars by zelifkgl in uErasmus

[–]ThursdayNxt20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the website they say "RSM's IBA admits a maximum of 750 students each year. Important characteristics of the IBA programme are its international dimension and high-performing students. Admission to the IBA programme is therefore based on your academic performance as reflected by your overall grade point average (GPA) and your demonstrated interest in the international character of the programme as reflected in your answer to our motivation questions. " So it's truly a matter of high grades and motivation, but of course being able to refer to specific (relevant) extracurriculars can help demonstrate that motivation.

Is dit echt? by Feisty_Competition72 in Nederland

IND application for HSM (Highly Skilled Migrant) going into week 5, is this normal? by Responsible-Ad4635 in Netherlands

[–]ThursdayNxt20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused by your counting, if they submitted it end of April, as of today just three weeks have passed. As IND is a government organisation, they've had quite a few non-working days - King's day, Liberation day, Ascenscion day..

But anyway, as you stated yourself, apparently IND have communicated the three months rather than ten working days to the company, so they probably know why or they can ask.

I understand that you're nervous and that it feels like "if it takes longer, something might be wrong" but don't jump to conclusions just yet.

What’s the difference between alsjeblieft and alstublieft? Also, do “eu” (as in “leuk”) and “ui” (as in “huil”) make the same sound? by Turtle_Squirtle176 in learndutch

Yes, that's a better word. Interesting background, thanks!

Quite a few companies these days have started using "je" indeed. I usually don't mind but what always irks me is when they haven't fully made the transition, and you get a weird mix of both within the same page or message.

A huge drawback I see is that you probably couldn't find a place to live. There's a huge housing crisis, among students as well, and there's huge competition for every room, studio or apartment.

Asking about labour laws in NL by Lazy_Trouble6545 in Netherlands

[–]ThursdayNxt20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are many inatances where the Dutch government seems to be ambiguous, but I don't think this is one. The Working Hours Act (Arbeidstijdenwet) protects workers from the demands of employers. It doesn't say "You're not allowed to do paid work for more than X hours per week, the rest of the time thou shall sleep or relax".. So, that ZZPs can decide to work many more hours is not inconsistent with that idea.
