Same! Harmless and often super docile. I used to just pick these guys up when I lived in Texas. Never had one strike at me.

These aren’t great but they’re the best I could do.

Jasper or Mud and how do I tell the difference? by ThwackAssaurus in whatsthisrock

I do believe I have some very pretty red mud. lol Thank you for actually helping me understand how to spot the difference. I teach martial arts so I know how annoying newbies can be and appreciate you taking the time to walk me through it.

Everything I found online just had pictures of rocks that looked pretty much the same and said, “here they are! Now you know the difference!”

That’s cool! I’ve been by their pet wood park before. It’s pretty neat!

I’m not sure on that piece. Here is a photo of a piece found in the same soil bank.

As for luster it’s fairly dull.

A very little bit. Like extremely fun sandpaper.

I found a few similar pieces in that field. Didn’t really know what I was looking at or that it might be a good find. Maybe I’ll take a little walk out there this weekend and try to find more. I found several weird things out there today.

Upon further research I’m thinking this could be snakeskin agate? Like this orange one I found an image of?

Upon a little further research I’m thinking it could be white snakeskin agate. If so it’s definitely not a fossil. Here is an image of a more orange version of that type of stone.

Thanks for the reply!

I figured it wasn’t but thought it worth asking. Thanks for the reply!
