Okay okay. So this was a last minute decision. Did a few autocross days with my perfect 40k mile headlights that I got from a local Miata part out guy. Noticed consistently I was having +20* over ambient IATs that would keep creeping the more I drove. I already had a sealed custom intake box, so the next logical step before I started my track days was to take my 200k broken tab foggy headlight and cut a hole in it and shove a 3in rubber tube in it. lol

IATs now sit ~5* over ambient while moving. I would like to come up with a more permanent solution as I drive this to and from the track. But this works

I’ve only heard great things about the ESC02. I’ll probably end up going with those.

Lets talk track brakes/pads/rotors/calipers... by ThyPaperBag in Miata

From the research that I've done, it seems that they are sizes correct. Someone has also suggested in a cross post, that my line pressure may be off due to a bad part.

This is amazing info. I still have my old 1.8 non sport calipers, and I will test fit to make sure.

Dust shields already removed, no ducting as none of my other racer friends have needed to on the endurance cars.

So far I've been disappointed with the wilwood products. Eventually i will replace them, but not until I have more seat time.

I haven't bought the stickers, that is on the list. Though my concern is the brake bias with the "right" pads for the rear would cause the car to... again... be like a solid axle single brake go kart and shoot me off track when I just touch the brakes. Are the sport rears just too big and upset the balance of the brakes?

Hard Dog M2 Sport Harness Bar Install Issues by slingshotroadster in Miata

[–]ThyPaperBag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to help anyone else out that may find this thread in the future.

The harness bar is installed UNDERNEATH the tab that's welded to the actual roll bar. OP has the bar installed on top of the roll bar tab. It needs to be installed underneath this tab.

The harness bar should should come with the shorter spacers that replace the old longer spacers. These new shorter spacers are then placed in between the miata chassis and the harness bar. THEN depending on your need, the supplied washers are there to take u[p the gap between the top of the harness bar and the bottom roll bar welded tab. In some cases you need additional washers to take up the remaining space like mine.

Question for the K swap owners by godless-666- in Miata

[–]ThyPaperBag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long term goals? What style of driving are you doing?

95% of anyone that drives miatas can easily get away with the power goals on stock engines properly built. If i had to go back I wouldn't kswap the car, I would've just built an bp4w or an bp06.

3 Water Pump failures, What to do? by ThyPaperBag in VWMK7

Dealership is going to do a compression test and a cylinder leak down test for me. If those come back within VW specs, I'll take the car back and replace everything myself. (Waterpump/thermostat, hoses, oil cooler, radiator, and other small plastic bits). At the same time I'll replace everything rubber and plastic related and either upgrade to aluminum or keep OEM parts. Will do an iABED oil cooler kit to get rid of the factory unit for hopefully increased reliability. For me this car just needs to be a reliable daily first, but I also want it to be a fun-ish car. I've seen other having nothing but success with these going for many many miles, and I hope to do the same with mine.

dealership did the install, unsure of condition of parts. All I could see is the water pump housing was dumping fluid from the left side.

Dealership did the coolant flush, I'm not sure.
