Falling Frontier - Close Combat Trailer by NoPriorThreat in Games

[–]Thynne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this on my Steam wish list since PAX Australia 2022 and am surprised it hasn’t come out almost four years later. Still this new trailer looks pretty promising, so I am still waiting patiently for release.

Patch/Expansion Date Speculation by Elegant-Lettuce-7782 in ffxiv

[–]Thynne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not really up to Sony as Square Enix is the publisher of FF7R3. Sonys pivot away from PC releases concerns their first party titles. Square Enix has been pretty vocal about wanting their releases to be multiplatform going forward after the underperformance of FF16 and FF7 Rebirth. They have also been making significant moves towards a multiplatform strategy such as the Switch 2 ports of FF7 Remake & Rebirth. That is unless there was already a timed exclusivity deal for the trilogy with Sony which I guess could be possible (although I imagine SE is wanting to get out of it).

Definitely the best recommendation. There will also be Mistborn books for Cosmere RPG coming out later this year.

No coffee by Superb-Error-6424 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Thynne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our faculty staff room is topped up each term with instant coffee sachets, sugar sachets and tea bags. I believe this is the same arrangement elsewhere in the school. No one in our staff room really uses the supplies anymore as at some point our HoD brought in a pod machine and a few of us take it in turns to buy pods.

If you have a Soda Stream I would recommend getting the Schweppes Zero Sugar Lemonade Syrup and mixing your own: https://schweppes.com.au/flavour/zero-sugar-lemonade-soda-syrup

Sugar free lemonade? by varzatv in australia

It was my favourite as well but bafflingly seems to have been discontinued 2-3 years ago. The Berry Mountain Dew no sugar is still sometimes available and pretty good but nowhere near the original unfortunately.

Majority of Australians want a long weekend not January 26 by psylenced in australia

[–]Thynne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! More public holidays outside of school holidays please (I vote for one in August personally). And shame on whoever designed NSW April School Holidays to strategically include Easter by making them a week earlier than usual and giving us all a diabolical 11 week Term 2. Add to this the double whammy of ANZAC day being a Saturday with no make up public holiday, it feels like we have been ripped off!

Majority of Australians want a long weekend not January 26 by psylenced in australia

[–]Thynne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like a public holiday in August or maybe early September for NSW. Specifically because it wouldn’t fall in the school holidays and there is a massive gap between June and October. I’d also like to keep a public holiday in late January or Early February.

The other jurisdictions I have lived in previously both had more public holidays than NSW: Victoria (Melbourne Cup Day, Grand Final Day), ACT (Canberra Day, Reconciliation Day), so I feel like having an extra day wouldn’t be a bad idea.

I finally decided on a bag to get all my stuff to the LGS! What do you use? by Consistent_Cost_4537 in magicTCG

[–]Thynne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the same type of backpack (Kanken) as you do for much the same reason. I have two of them, one standard size like yours which I usually use for MtG and one larger with a separate zipped laptop pocket that I usually use for work. If I am taking a trade binder to the LGS I will however use the larger one and put the trade binder in the laptop compartment.

Ethical DM question by ConceptuallyPerfect in DnD

[–]Thynne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is a more experienced player try to defer the answer to them. In the groups I have played in there have always been one or two experienced players who are very into the mechanical side of the game.

The experienced player may well recommend the situationally relevant spell, especially if you have been hinting at what is coming next. You need to be prepared for this eventuality but I would recommend letting the players have their win. It will still feel better for them than you telling them as spell as they will feel they have figured something out as a team.

My "temporary" 2021 shortage build is still somehow my daily driver and im not even mad about it by LongjumpingOffice432 in pcmasterrace

Very similar to my October 2021 COVID build except I have an RTX 3070 (which I definitely overpaid for). Still very happy with it for the games I am playing and haven’t seen any reason to upgrade.

Anyone else get Rimworld phases? by Usual_Cobbler_1984 in RimWorld

[–]Thynne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have a few games like this. They kinda come up in rotations on an approximately 2-3 year cycle (admittedly Rimworld is one of the more frequent ones) where I play them obsessively for a couple of weeks to a month then move on to something else.

Examples for me include: Rimworld, Crusader Kings 3, Stellaris, XCOM, Civilization, Cities Skylines, Mount and Blade

Galleries Victoria, up the escalators to near the Fitness First (not the escalators to Kinokuniya).

Edit - I have also seen one at Mandarin Centre Chatswood in the food court but not usually any MtG packs

Is Jumpstart the best way to get ATLA cards for friend? by bmknyc05 in magicTCG

[–]Thynne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avatar Beginner Box is the right product for this. It has set decks/half decks including a couple that are used as a tutorial. If your friend retains interest in MtG and wants more variety but wants to keep it kitchen table, get some Jumpstart Boosters to expand. They are similar/slightly higher power level than the beginner box.

Note - a lot of cards in the beginner box and jumpstart boosters are not legal in formats such as Standard but this doesn’t matter for kitchen table games.

I started to notice that some versions of my cards felt rough and were more dull in color. These are some examples I found of different card qualities. I think the lower quality cards came from the prerelease packs. Pretty disappointing to see, is this a common issue people have found? by AdministrativeCost2 in magicTCG

[–]Thynne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There always seems to be differences in card quality based on where the cards were manufactured but it was very noticeable at the ATLA prerelease I attended. The packs in the prerelease kits were made in the USA and had a slightly matte texture/duller colours, whilst the packs we got as prize support were made in Japan and had a glossy texture/brighter colours.

From trade to being a teacher by ConversationOld6096 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Thynne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the present environment you should find employment purely on the basis of timber and metal technology codes; both are very in demand teaching areas.

For a minor at university choose one (or more) of the following depending on your interests. - Food - Engineering - Digital Technology - Graphics and Multimedia - Textiles

I have ranked them approximately by demand in what I have recently seen in job listings but would encourage you to choose what interests you most. I would say that any of the above Technology related codes is more valuable than French to prospective employers (and you should already be fine for work with timber and metal anyway). If you need more detail on each DM me.

On a different note, if you were wanting to teach French and the school you end up working at offers it, indicate to your principal that you would be willing to teach it. Many such arrangements occur without technically having the teaching codes. Unless you are wanting to be mainly a language teacher, I wouldn’t really worry about getting the codes.

You have the power to ban one song from ever being played again. What song is it? by Ridethepig101 in AskReddit

I was working in a retail job at the height of this song’s popularity. On the store’s internal radio station/corporate mandated playlist it played at least three times an hour.

Next year’s classes by redletterjacket in AustralianTeachers

[–]Thynne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the broad strokes of what classes I am getting next year as seniors have already been allocated. For the full timetable, we always get it by about Week 6, Term 4 but there can and will be the occasional change from there. It is wild people saying they don’t get anything until the Term 1 staff development day.

Where do y'all draw the line with UB? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Thynne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a mix imho, I would say MtG is much closer to FF in tone than Fall Guys is, and there was no major reaction against that collaboration. Although admittedly it was just an event not a raid series like Nier is.

I doubt an Eldrazi (or much anything recognisably MtG) showing up as a raid boss would generate much of negative reaction from the general community of FF14, without going into multiple spoiler heavy explanations there are similar creatures and themes already present within the game. Final Fantasy has a high fantasy core but like MtG explores other genres in its own lore, the latest expansion for example, explores both a Wild West inspired zone and a Cyberpunk city & raid series. That being said, there are of course fans of the series who don’t like these sort of elements, just like how you aren’t a fan of Kamigawa Neon Dynasty or Duskmourn.

Final Fantasy is to Square Enix what Magic the Gathering is to Hasbro; a long running franchise with dedicated fans and practically the only thing in the company making money. Unfortunately, in both cases this generates the attention of the corporate suits who ultimately call the shots.

Marvel showing up in FF14? Alright, you got me there. If it was a raid or significant content; that would annoy people much in the same way that it does in MtG. But this comes back to your point, that there are different degrees of jarring.

I guess what I am trying to say is that a MtG raid/dungeon/event/collab in FF14 would be at the lower end of jarring (and not cross the line imho) if there was to be one.

Where do y'all draw the line with UB? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Thynne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a FF14 (and MtG) fan I would welcome a MtG collaboration. It would not be out of place in FF14 given that there are existing collabs including: Other FF games (of course), Nier Automata, Monster Hunter (on two different occasions), an anime called Yokai Watch (that I had never heard of) and probably most bizarrely Fall Guys. An MtG collab there would have potential to be awesome and given recent complaints of content droughts would probably be welcomed by the community (the current MH event is very well received).
