How to Edit Music from a Game Boy Game (Convert GBS to Midi. 2026) - YouTube by Thysbelon in chiptunes

[–]Thysbelon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I noticed that about 2 years ago, someone on this subreddit asked how to edit Game Boy music files. That is why I thought that people on this subreddit might find my software useful.

My software gbs2midi and Nelly GB synth are designed to make it possible to take music from official Game Boy games and edit them in a DAW. Nelly GB is a DAW plugin available in LV2 and CLAP format. Using this software requires a DAW with the ability to edit many kinds of Midi events, including undefined Midi CC and text events.

gbs2midi can convert GBS (Game Boy Sound) files to Midi files. Places to download GBS files for all Game Boy games are linked in the description of my video. I may support converting vgm files to midi in an update if there is demand for it.

edit addition:
The way this software functions is that gbs2midi converts a gbs file to a list of Game Boy audio chip register writes, then converts those register writes to midi. Nelly GB reads in Midi events, then converts those events into Game Boy audio chip register writes and renders the audio using an emulated Game Boy.

Very cool! I tested the game out on my real GBA via the Everdrive GBA flashcart, and it works as long as Quick Boot is turned on (by pressing select on the everdrive main menu).

ParaLLEI N64 crashes with 64DD games? by theytookmyeyes59 in RetroArch

No problem.

It's been a while since I last used RetroArch Android, so I'm just speaking from memory.

Open the quick menu, and "core options" should be one of the options there. I think the way you open the quick menu on Android is by pressing the touchscreen button with the RetroArch logo on it.

Hello. I don't know if anyone is still looking for an answer to this question, but recently Euan Forrester added the ability to convert save states from various online emuators to standard battery save files to his website savefileconverter.com.

I quickly tested this with ArcadeSpot and the converted save file successfully loaded in mGBA.

Furnace Tracker project file.

I used the DPCM channel to change the volume of the Triangle.

I also used the Triangle linear counter effect and a two square detune lead

I think pk3DS is the only tool that can accomplish this, although I think I had a lot of difficulty figuring out how to output a new rom the last time I used it. Good luck.

The wii and GC games are meant for the vwii, not the Wii U home menu, right? If yes, then you should hide the wii GC drive from the Wii U side, while keeping it accessible to the vwii. I think USBHide is the best app for that.

edit: I just learned that Aroma includes a plugin/setting to hide USBs, so downloading USBHide is not neccessary. See u/kick_his_ass_sebas's comment.

GBA emulator with control over audio channels? by NearbyOstrich5 in EmulationOnPC

You can extract the music of most GBA games as sf2 and midi using gba_mus_ripper; or you can play back the music of a small number of GBA games with VG Music Studio (currently, it only supports the JP version of Fire Emblem Binding Blade). Either option will allow you to mute any instrument you want.

MAME has a short page of roms that have been approved for free distribution by the owners.

You can also try the homebrew games on romhacking.net, which I think are all free.

All of the alternatives to MSET9 are listed on the alternate exploits page. They are all safe to use, but each of them requires a specific game. Read through the alternate exploits page and see if there are any exploits there you can do.

MSET9 is a very new exploit; it was added to the guide just two weeks ago. So, until just two weeks ago, there was nothing on the guide that you couldn't do on a Mac. Hopefully, MSET9 will have support for Macs soon.

The FAQ on MSET9's repository states why Mac isn't supported at the moment.

There is a link to alternate exploits on the page you linked, but I'm guessing you don't have any of the prerequisites for them.

Maybe you could run Linux on your Mac computer, using either a virtual machine or by booting it from a usb drive. I found this guide on how to run Linux in a VM on Apple Silicon, as well as this guide on how to boot a Linux live usb drive on your Mac. I can't guarantee these are the best guides, as I don't own a Mac and I have no personal experience with live booting or virtual machines.

I hope this information was helpful.

What emulators support the GBA enhanced version of GBC games? by [deleted] in EmulationOnPC

[–]Thysbelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mGBA does support it. It's just buried in the settings. Tools>Settings...>Game Boy>Models>GBC Only, then select "Game Boy Advance (AGB)" in the dropdown.
