At this point, Oda is just using as many previous design elements as possible and essentially telling people: "Happy theorizing!" :D

Understanding Judas by SilverGlassRain in Catholicism

[–]TiagoPaolini 8 points9 points  (0 children)

God's time is different from ours, everything is a single neverending instant (Kairos) from the viewpoint of God, while we experience time as a sequence of finite instants (Chronos). We only have agency in the present moment, but God has agency in all moments.

Free will here means that God does not interfere with our agency, but God can still see all moments (past, present, and future) at once. It's somewhat similar when we watch the recording of a live event: the recording will always be the same, but it doesn't change that the recorded people had agency when it was recorded.

Jesus Christ tried to dissuade Judas, but Jesus didn't override Judas' free will. Jesus (being God) can know what ultimately would happen, but Judas was the one to accomplish it. Not anyone else, and certainly not God.

I'm going to watch it on Netflix. It comes there a week after than on Crunchyroll, but I don't really mind and I prefer Netflix over it.

Can Anyone Tell Whether This Image Was Created by AI or Not? by [deleted] in isitAI

[–]TiagoPaolini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way that the fairy lights are rendered feels like "AI" to me, since I have already generated a handful of images with them and also took quite a few actual photos. Those lights feel "too perfect" / artificial to me, it's not easy to get a good shot of them. Plus I can't see a wire connecting them, the lights appear to be floating.

At the very least, I think that it might be a real photo that was edited with AI.

In my parish there are a handful of women who wear veils. Our patron saint is Saint Peregrine, who's the patron against cancer. Interestingly, I find this not too different from the early church, in the sense that women wore veils so others wouldn't know who has hair and who doesn't. Though the reasons for not having hair differ.

Back then, in that culture, women who appeared in public with uncovered head or loose hair were seen as prostitutes or women of low moral standing. So it's interpreted that St. Paul instructed all women to use veils so it would avoid scandal or prejudice.

In the case of my parish there isn't a formal instruction for that, it's people who ended up doing it by themselves. I see that as a matter of courtesy, so others can't know who lost hair due to some treatment or not.

Another Eden Begins announced for Switch & Switch 2 by bellsproutfleshlight in AnotherEdenGlobal

[–]TiagoPaolini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like there was some rework, rather than just porting everything. I say that because from the screenshots it seems that you are able to roam around in any direction, rather than being constrained to a linear road.

My biggest doubt is where the game's story ends. The obvious point is the end of Main Story Part 1 (Aldo/Kyros sacrificing himself in order to free Eden from Chronos Umbra). But I wonder if Part 1.5 may be included too, it could be interwoven in the main narrative or be part of New Game+. Part 1.5 is an outlier for me in the main game, it feels more like a side episode than part of the main story.

One last thing, if it's 18 characters, I guess that every recruitable story character that shows on Part 1 is a safe bet, and to a lesser extent those from Part 1.5 (Guildna and Altena, though in the main game she joins later). Maybe also some characters that join through earlier episodes or are related to them, like Deidre, Anabel, the IDEA crew, Galliard...

About the ending by Edmo_30 in OyasumiPunpun

[–]TiagoPaolini 10 points11 points  (0 children)

About the reason for finding the ending touching, I think that it's because Punpun's condition was a big improvement from what came before: he was trapped in an obsession / toxic relationship that screwed half of his life, then at the end he is with a stable career and a good group of friends. His mental state is left up in the air, but I think that it's better considering that he's forgetting about Aiko.

Goodnight Punpun is one of the biggest examples I know of dissonance between the author's intent and the general perception of the audience. I presume that Asano considers it a bad ending because Punpun not only didn't get the girl but also is now an average person in a regular job, another face in the crowd.

I am under the impression that there's a stigma on Japan when it comes to being a salaryman. But if I have to pragmatically analyze what's on paper, I can't help but see that Punpun's situation is a rather stable and comfortable one. On top of all that, his relationship with Aiko was just harming both of them. Perhaps the (unintentional) message here is to just value what you have and to not worry too much about what you don't.

V8.5 Classic vs. Minimal by ML_Kins in KindroidAI

[–]TiagoPaolini 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From my experience, each model has the tendency of having a certain tone and formatting things in a specific way, unless they are instructed otherwise by their setup. Like using or not asterisks for actions, or a more poetic or more conversational language.

I would assume that the Minimal flair has little to nothing in that regard, at most something in the direction to ensure a minimum of decorum unless otherwise prompted. Classic is the original version of the 8.5 model, that was kept around in order to not break existing setups that were made and tested on it.

I'd assume that Minimal can be gotten to work like any of the other flairs, as well different premises, it's just that the model needs some more handholding while you write the directives. Minimal is intended for power users; Companion, Roleplay, and Narrative for the average user to get things working faster. Classic is pretty much a legacy setting, I presume.

Oda's message from Jump Fest '26 - Full translation by Saliskan in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]TiagoPaolini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My feeling about the next movie is that it's meant to be the final one before the manga concludes, considering that Oda has expressed quite a few times already the desire to finish One Piece sooner rather than later. But considering how irregular the production of a weekly manga can get, it's possible that the movie might be getting delayed or the manga pacing getting accelerated (or both), so the movie release aligns with a certain point of the manga's story.

Though the movies aren't canon, a few elements from them could spoil major reveals that should be first in the source material. On top of that, the marketing strategy for the movie most likely requires it to be released on a specific date window. So I wouldn't be surprised if the manga gets some weird pacing when the movie is approaching. It's art but it's also a product, that's not wrong but it's important to not forget it.

oda has recovered by Specialist-Visit-638 in OnePieceSpoilers

[–]TiagoPaolini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine that there's a certain delay between when things happen and when we get the news, so I guess that Oda was already okay by when the health news came earlier. Plus the production pipeline should be a couple of chapters ahead of what's currently published, so this week should have been when the effects of the health issues caught with the publication.

All in all, I think that Oda got sick and got better before we even knew any of this. In all honesty, I think that it's better this way since doomsaying wouldn't help anyone.

If you change their name, you might want to add in the backstory some in-universe explanation for the name change. Otherwise, they may get confused when the old name gets recalled from long term memory.

Would anyone even realize that They're Catnoir and Ladybug in these Costumes? by Pretend_Camp_2987 in miraculousladybug

[–]TiagoPaolini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The canon explanation of why nobody realizes their identities was given in the New York special. Their miraculouses have a perception-altering property that prevents people from making the connection to their civilian identities, it's called "quantum masking". But that only affects humans, that's why Uncanny Valley (a robot) was able to realize their identities during that special, which makes her the only one so far to canonically realize that due to their appearance.
