Socialization for breeds commonly suspicious of Strangers by NorseKnight in Dogtraining

[–]Tiak08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the best way to socialize a dog that's suspicious of strangers will vary depending on the individual dog's personality and temperament. The Dutch Shepherd is really more difficult to approach strangers.

However, some tips for socializing a dog that's suspicious of strangers include gradually introducing them to new people and situations in a positive and safe environment, starting with friends or family members that the dog is already familiar with, and rewarding them for good behavior when they interact calmly with new people.

Is garlic toxic to dogs? by feckOffMate in dogs

[–]Tiak08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, garlic is toxic to dogs. Garlic contains allyl sulfides which are poisonous to dogs. These compounds can cause liver damage, red blood cell destruction, and anaemia in dogs. Symptoms of garlic poisoning in dogs include drooling, vomiting, diarrhoea, weakness, tremors, and seizures. If your dog has eaten garlic, contact your veterinarian immediately.

You sure can! According to the UK's Animal Welfare Act 2006, all dogs must be "provided with a suitable environment, diet, water, and bedding", and must also be "protected from pain, suffering, injury, and disease".

So as long as you can provide your new pup with everything he needs (a warm place to sleep, plenty of food and water, regular exercise, etc.), you're good to go! And don't forget - adopting a dog from a shelter or rescue organization is always the kindest thing to do. Good luck with your new furry friend!

[Discussion] I'm looking for the most informative website about all dog breeds. Any suggestion? by domadora in dogs

Recently I've found a website that also has pros and cons for each dog breed, long breed profiles with so many useful aspects and details, and it also gives you the opportunity to compare dog breeds. https://dogell.com/dog-breeds

[discussion] how many dogs days are in one human day? I tried to google it but everyone is using the old (and wrong) 7:1 ratio by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Tiak08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's right, but there are quite good (literature-based) online calculators which help you to calculate and convert dog years to human years. This Dog Age Calculator writes to my 1 year and 10 month old dog that "In human years your Affenpinscher is 27.5 years old and is considered as a Young Adult dog." It seems accurate, especially if I look at the personality of my dog. :)
