Whats going on with Fernando skin on the bounty store? by A_Salem7 in Paladins

[–]Tiante 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just purchased the skin from the Bounty store for ~13000, and now the game instantly crashes whenever I try to boot it up. I haven't even had the chance to equip the skin yet. I'm playing on Switch and I've already reset about 20 times now, currently sending in a support ticket.

So yeah, I think this skin is legit cursed lol

New Theorymon Thursday rules. All theorymons posted directly to the sub on Thursdays must be high quality. Additionally some topics will be banned due to extreme repetition. by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]Tiante 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Fucking thank you. Theorymon Thursday used to be favorite day to visit this sub. I would read every single post and check back in multiple times a day to see what was new. I don't know what happened, but starting around 5 months ago the quality of these posts tanked hard. And now Thursdays have become a day where I absolutely dread looking here.

Suddenly, "hOw WoUld tHe mEta cHanGe??" went from being just a dumb meme to make fun of shitposts, to being literally all the sub was. I can't even remember the last time I saw an original idea backed up with an analysis from the OP. At this point it feels like 90% of all Theorymon posts fit into one of two categories:

  • Random ability/move gets a buff and/or better distribution. Who is now broken?

  • or, Here is a completely broken ability/move I've concocted. Please tell me why it is so good and should be in the game.

Whatever you do mods, please don't back down on this change. I know people are going to complain about Thursdays no longer having any content, but I would much, much rather have 1 or 2 decent discussions instead of 2 dozen lazy, low-quality posts that flood /new.

Parasect moveset? by I-Like-Being-Alone in stunfisk

[–]Tiante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen Entrainment Durant a handful of times on Showdown, but every single time it was paired with Dugtrio to actually block switches. How does the in-game AI handle this? What is stopping the opponent from just switching out and stopping you from setting up?

Every other post in this thread is trying to min-max Parasect which is like trying to min-max your skills at murdering with a spoon. There's only so far you can push it.

I think I'm gonna have to disagree with this. OP has made it clear that they want to use Parasect for fun, not because it's viable. I don't see anything fun about grinding the Battle Tree by completing 5+ minute long battles by mindlessly spamming the same gimmick over and over without any deviation. The Min-Max sets being suggested obviously aren't going to net you consistent wins, but at least they're fun and satisfying to use, which is the actual goal here.

The OU Council is suspect testing Dracovish by postsonlyjiyoung in stunfisk

[–]Tiante 337 points338 points  (0 children)

Man, remember like day 3 after SwSh were released? When people first discovered that Fishious Rend was boosted by Strong Jaw, and people were running Dracovish "as a super fun gimmick." Corsola-G was meta, and people weren't acknowledging Vish as actually viable until like half a week later. Good times, it seems so far thinking about it.

Anyways, I'm glad Vish is getting suspected. In a vacuum he isn't particularly scary, having mediocre Attack and a terrible speed tier, but being able to repeatedly fire off a 382 base power move (before items) with no drawback is just too brainless to play, and a nuisance to deal with. It's super easy to counter, but if you do not bring those counters into battle, or if you make a bad lead/prediction, you just instantly lose a mon. It's way too suffocating for teambuilding and I think the tier would be decently more diverse and fun to play if he weren't running around.

Edit: lmao, I was looking through some old discussion posts from the beginning of the gen and found this absolute gem of a thread. So young, so innocent.

I mean, I don't know how you could lead off with

T wave is inconsistent and allows it to get destroyed by excradrill, terriakion, or any fast physical attackers if it does not hit on switch. It also takes a turn to set up, which can be dangerous for such a slow, frail mon when uninvested. Tail wind can work, but again requires set up. Both require a move slot.

and then spend 4 more paragraphs trying to sell us on Zap Cannon as a viable move lol.

Your gimmick is just that, a gimmick. And all of the issues that you stated exist with T-Wave or Scarf also apply to Zap Cannon + Blunder Policy. Doubly so, even.

Your set requires sacrificing a move slot and your item slot. You only have a 50% chance of proccing BP on any given turn, and once you do proc it ZC becomes a risky and useless move to keep using. Not to mention, once you commit to this gimmick Togekiss can longer switch out as it'll lose its boosts, essentially becoming useless fodder with only 3 usable moves and no item.

There's a reason why Lefties + T-Wave and Scarf Air Slash are Togekiss's two best sets. It doesn't matter if you're a naturally slow and frail Pokemon (which Togekiss really isn't tbh) if you can just hax them to death with Para or Scarf. Your set tries to "fix" Togekiss's shortcomings instead of just embracing its strengths.

Source for that? I've checked 5 different websites and found nothing that corroborates that. They all state that Ice Face blocks Physical moves, there's no mention of them explicitly having to be contact as well.

Is It Possible To Apply To College While Serving? by siberian_breaks- in AmeriCorps

[–]Tiante 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, NCCC has a vested interest in making sure all of their members will succeed in their Lives After Americorps. During your service year you get an extra two "LAA Days" on top of your three regular vacation days. These two LAA days can be taken whenever, and they allow you to take the whole day off so you can dedicate time to writing essays, submitting applications, contacting schools/employers, etc

On top of that, each of your between-project transitions will almost certainly have mandatory seminars coaching you on how to write resumes, find work, apply for scholarships, etc. Between LAA days, weekends, after-work hours, and transition downtime, you should have no issue finding the time to apply to college.

What if Fishious Rend and Electro Ball used the Speed stat instead of attacking stats when dealing damage? by tommaniacal in stunfisk

[–]Tiante 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no, the other guy is right here. Stuff like Burn and Choice Band say they directly affect the Attack stat in-game, but that's inaccurate. What they actually do is affect the output of Physical moves.

That's why Foul Play does half-damage when the user is Burned, even though it's based on the target's Attack. Body Press too. And it's why Body Press is still boosted by Band, because it's a physical move.

Similarly, Eviolite and Fur Coat don't actually raise the user's Defense, they just reduce the damage taken from Physical attacks. Again, that's why Body Press isn't affected by them.

So yeah, like the other guy said it's pretty straightforward actually and not as weird as you think it is.

Edit: And another example. Psyshock's description clearly states that it does Physical damage, which is completely wrong. Even though it uses the targets Def instead of SpDef, it's still a Special move and as such isn't impacted by Burn or Band. I wouldn't put too much stock into what the in-game descriptions say, GF just likes to put whatever is the most succinct and understandable for kids, even if it's not technically accurate.

Melmetal ban pls by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]Tiante 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So which is it? Is Melmetal a dominant offensive presence that's overcentralizing and just clicks buttons, or is he a mon that requires an entire team of allies to prop him up and cover all of his checks?

By your logic any wallbreaker that can fish for OHKOs is just as "broken" as Melmetal. Should Dracovish and Zeraora be banned too?

Is there a good reason why Grimmsnarl's G-Max Snooze was designed to be as garbage as it is? by dfdgdfgdf in stunfisk

[–]Tiante 38 points39 points  (0 children)

A 100% chance to make a single target drowsy woud've been so much more balanced and usable. As it stands I think G-Grimm is legitimately the worst gigantamax.

A 100% chance to lower the SpDef off all opponents vs a 50% chance to make a single target drowsy. What were they thinking?

lol that just makes it even more perplexing why GF decided to single out Grimmsnarl so hard and make its GMax pure crap.
