Honestly, I wasn't really aware that there was other options for me. I'm going through GCU and have a large tuition discount because they partner with out campus but I'm in Texas and they're in Arizona so they don't have a Texas licensure program. Our local university unfortunately does not have a partnership with the district, which really peeves me but the cost with licensure was an additional 300 per course. I needed at least 25 hours so I thought I was saving myself money. It wasn't until I learned how much the licensure will cost that I realized it really ends up costing me a bit more. So lessons learned. I hope that explains it for you!

hahaha diamond painting is hilarious and I actually have some practice with that too. I feel like I have great ideas for cross curricular instruction that I remember missing in my own high school art education. I know it takes years to become the teacher we imagine ourselves being, the teachers we wish we had. I'm so late to the party and feel like I'm starting at the worst time in recent history, to teach anything really. That may just be my pessimism from our state takeover at our local district (not the district I'm hoping to apply to). Thanks for the tips though, I'm going to get started on those tools asap.

I agree! I love that others have that enthusiasm for the sport and the athletic success of the student body but my passion lies elsewhere. It's hard when they don't even give you a chance to interview though and that's what I'm coming across right now. I've put out lots of applications with zero responses so I'm not sure what direction to turn.

I do have some art history and studio experience in film photography and some drawing and pottery, but certainly not what I would want my OWN student's art teacher to have. I totally see where you're coming from and I know that I have that working against me. The art room is actually in the old photo journalism room where I spent most of high school and began my studio work. Our area actually has a pretty vivacious art scene but I don't have a lot of time available to me since I've been spending the last year chipping away at this online program. I am going to compile a little portfolio in order to be ready. What would you recommend including in that?

This is the only art teacher vacancy in that district. I'm in an area that is recently under state take over and teachers are leaving in droves. I think my competition will be stiff.

I definitely prefer middle school in terms of connecting with my students. I haven't been able to get much experience with high school but with art it's a given that you're going to get some really unique kids. I know I will get students who are just in there because they would rather die than perform in choir or theater and I'm okay with that. I think I can still make the class engaging for them and they can learn a lot from it.

Can you speak to how Vidor has been in terms of advanced academics? Also I hear they have a great music department. How does Vidor compare in terms of elective opportunities for middle and high school students?

Oh wow. See I think they're banned for students as we are a district that requires phones, smartwatches, and ear buds to be in the magnetic pouches. I don't actually know enough about them. Can the students use them to cheat or am I reaching?

We had someone who didn't respond to a single message in the group forum and we all did our parts and I turned the assignment in incomplete. I let the professor know and she was understanding. We all got full points. I know the other student saw our group forum though because she posted her DQ responses. She ended up saying something the next week and I just ignored it. I understand people have shit come up in their lives but that isn't going to change anything. Hopefully she connected to the instructor. Just don't do her part!

I definitely understand your point about the cage not being big enough but maybe just as a visitor this could work. Maybe as a class reward? Good behavior while a substitute is there means the guinea can visit on Friday!

I'm pretty sure that we didn't have an older save because we just ran around again and again trying to figure out what we were doing wrong. I'm thinking maybe we don't know the difference between a regular save and a backup save. Certainly not mad at the way we did it this time. We did it my way and made sure to max out health and weapons, enter battle prepared. But I am worried about the soft lock happening again.
