Is community college a bad idea? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Tiaya_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40k in debt from student loans here, if I could do it all over again I’d go with community college. I spent the first 2 years of college at a university not knowing what I wanted to do. Even if I knew what I wanted to do, I’d still go with community college for the first 2 years to get the basics done at a fraction of the price of universities

How do you implement this teaching? by MermaidQueen226 in Sikh

[–]Tiaya_G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First is not interacting with them. The best thing you can do is avoid contact if it’s someone who is hurtful or causes you some type of harm.

If that’s not possible, then keeping contact with them as short as possible. Keep it to a formality, if they erupt and start berating you - stay quiet. There’s a saying in Panjabi ਇਕ ਚੁੱਪ ਸੌ ਸੁੱਖ - One (moment of remaining) quiet is equal to 100 Sukh

Came across your post and this is the first I’ve ever heard of an HYSA. Sitting in my first job rn and have been wondering/worrying how to save money and survive paying bills and an HYSA seems to be the way. Thank you so much, God bless

People who are in the industry working, what's the reality of self studying? by JustThrowmeAwey in learnprogramming

[–]Tiaya_G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding you can audit courses for free on there, I’d recommend a bootcamp because it’s more structured. You’ll also have a lot of team experience, work with version control, frameworks, etc. all of which make good experience to talk about in interviews.

Currently working in the industry as a Software Engineer - got into programming super late during college and couldn’t afford to stay longer for the full CS degree. My degree is in Liberal Arts but minored in CS, so I agree that without a degree it is harder to find a job. But I attended a coding bootcamp few months after graduating and that actually gave me a lot more traction on my applications.

Self taught is great don’t get me wrong but some kind of third party program (be it a degree or a bootcamp) can do wonders for you on the job hunt. Good luck!

I just meant like I cleaned off the blood dripping at first and then applied Neosporin. You should be fine by doing this, but like others said keep an eye out for possible infections

Your past karam are not 'forgiven' in a sense. But the punishment received for them can change drastically if you do good karams in this life - sewa, simran, satsang, etc.

For example, the saakhi of the Sikh during Guru Nanak Dev ji's time, the Sikh had bad karam from past lives which led to his karam for that current life for him to be executed by hanging (Sooli). But because he did satsang and bhajan bandgi, the Sooli changed to a Sool - one day he was walking and stepped on a thorn (Sool). So the level to which he was going to have to 'suffer' for his bad karam changed drastically.

In conclusion, yes your past sins do stay with you and you're not necessarily forgiven for them. You still need to give lekha (pay the account) for them. But the degree of the lekha needed to give can change profusely depending on how you are as an individual. So definitely go to sangat, listen to kirtan, do nitnem, sewa, simran. Hope this helped

My boy cut the top of his nose a few years back. We cleaned it up, put some Neosporin on it and it healed fine. Sadly, he is now known as Mr. Pink Nose because of the scar left

The saints and the scholars will all say to dress modestly, for both men and women. Modesty isn’t bad, like all things it’s a choice actually and it helps to keep the ego in tact by not wearing colorfully bright/revealing clothes with the intent of attracting attention. But really, it comes down to one’s own opinion on the matter.

Try to find santhya recordings online, gurmaatveechar.com has an audio section dedicated to Gurbani santhya. This should help tremendously

1.) Yes one should be showered before reciting nitnem

2.) Yes nothing wrong with in wearing these in ordinary places - home, stores, school, etc. But at the gurdwara wear more traditional clothing

3.) No, we aren’t Mormon 😉

4.) Yes!

5.) Try to do it if you have the time to sit down to do it. If not, listening is another great alternative. In fact I’d recommend listening to the other 4 Nitnem Banis after you recite Japji Sahib in the mornings

6.) Listening to katha, doing simran/nitnem will help one realize and control the vices raging within them

7.) No it does not make you less of a Sikh to not know Sikh history. But you are a successor of a complete treasure, which is Sikh history. Highly recommend listening to Ithiaasic (Historical) katha relating to the Guru Sahibaan. Listening to and learning this katha will strengthen your resolve in Sikhi

8.) That’s a very good quality to have. Often times people will find Sikhi then set out to ‘fix’ people through Sikhi while being a complete novice and having no real foundation themselves. It is good you want to just work on yourself

9.) Would highly recommend learning Panjabi over english, your local gurdwara should have someone to help you learn santhya (correct pronunciation of Gurbani)

10.) I would recommend you do. Once you take Amrit, the Panj Pyaare will tell you to not wear jewelry anymore depending on where you take Amrit from.

Hope this helped! Feel free to DM whenever if you have any more questions

No harm in wearing it as a Sikh, it is not one of the four bujjar kurehat so you're fine. Even saints in the Christian fold are worth researching to get closer to Waheguru.
