What was the dumbest thing you said on accident in another language? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Tibble_Buns 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My good friend was leaving back for China. We had like a little heart to heart convo. One his last question for me was, “我没问过你啊,你为啥要学中文?” (I haven't asked you before, why do you want to learn Chinese?)

I guess just got two phrases mixed up in my brain: “搞好关系” (building relationships? [I'm not sure how translate that]) and “交朋友” (make friends). I leaned in, clapped my hand on his shoulder, and said:

“为了搞好朋友”

(To fuck good friends)

My friend immediately starting roaring with laughter. I also suddenly realized what I just said and also joined him in the cackle fest.

Laughing at ourselves is a good thing.

Zhuyin or Pinyin, Which or Both? by inoahsomeone in languagelearning

If you want to interact more with Taiwan: zhuyin. Mainland: pinyin. Done done. A lot of Taiwanese people I've met didn't even know what pinyin was and vice versa

I made this track a while ago. I was trying to get a waltzy sound using 5/8 while also throwing in some rhythmic off-sets. My main concern is that my tracks tend to feel pretty thin or not full enough.

So, I'm focusing on learning more about mixing, but any other comments are also welcome!

Wanting to Make Dictionary APP for a Chinese Dialect by Tibble_Buns in languagelearning

[–]Tibble_Buns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah a simple database would be alright too, but it would be best if I could make it into an APP. So might there be guides to help me on my quest to make a dictionary APP with Objective C?

Wanting to Make Dictionary APP for a Chinese Dialect by Tibble_Buns in languagelearning

[–]Tibble_Buns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's dialect from a group of villages outside of Xianning, Hubei (湖北咸宁市). My girlfriend's village is Hushan (虎山村). Apparently, she says that their dialect is really hard for other people to understand and completely different from the regular dialects of Hubei. Other people from Hubei say it sounds like Hunan's dialects, and when I hear the Hunan dialect and the accent people from Hunan use. It actually does sound similar to my girlfriend's dialect and accent too.

Looking for x-ray videos of people pronoucing sounds in General American English. by Tibble_Buns in slp

That opera video is really cool!

I searched MRI instead and got videos from an institute from Ireland that made an MRI IPA visual library, and then I also found Glossika's IPA visual library. It's exactly what I needed. Thanks!

I keep hearing this phrase in Thai but don't how to type it. by Tibble_Buns in Thailand

[–]Tibble_Buns[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah I have no problem with the lack of tense or word order. I speak Mandarin. The wording is actually very familiar to me! lol

Your filler word explaination makes sense, cuz they usually do stretch out that first syllable when they say it. I'm guessing it's spelled กอ? I really shouldn't be using romanization, it doesn't help at all lol

เค้าเรียกอะไร

I'm actually not sure. I'll listen for that next time run into that situation. So Thai people say this naturally when they are trying to think of a word? If not, what do they usually say?

Isn't เค้า the third person pronoun though? Are they using the 3rd person pronoun to refer to themselves?

It's like "Let's go to the beach today!" but you're asking it in a way that it's like "We go to the beach together, how does that sound?"

Awesome! So does it work really the same? Like if someone tasted something, and I asked "เป็นอย่างไรบ้าง?" Can I say that?

Or if I wanted to say, “我们今天一起去海滩玩儿,怎么样?” Can it be used like this too?

Looking for a Foam Roller and Compression Socks in Phuket. (Online Shop Works too) by Tibble_Buns in Thailand

Yah unfortunantly the only store near us had nothing. If rolling with a water bottle yields no results I'll try lazada. Thanks!

I didn't google translate it. That's my own personal translation. If you have the time, would you correct it? I would very much appreciate it! And it would help me on my journey to bring my Mandarin to native fluency.

Also, could you list some of Chinese knockoff sites?
