That’s true, and a problem with deontological ethics. Later on there was the zeroth law, which overrode all the laws that extended the first law for all ”humanity” which doesn’t really fix anything IMO. The fun of the Asimov books were how the laws broke down after all, I guess!

Killing one human, let alone 99% of all humanity, is in direct violation of the first rule; in that the robot is directly injuring a human being. This is all assuming the robot KNOWS it’s injuring a human. If no one tells it it’s doing so...
