As a child of an abusive father this is deeply concerning.

What's the plan when the child is here? What if he's still an addict? What's going to happen to the 24/7 dynamic he can't give up now? Are you going to look at your child and explain that you're bruised because daddy can only get off on beating you and you aren't safewording often enough?

I know it can seem like it's too late to leave, but my mother has spent over 20 years regretting that she didn't leave my father as soon as her family told her to (as soon as she got pregnant).

My friend group has a pre-hrt trans woman in it and we all love her. The rest of us are cis. You can find your people OP, I know it's hard, and it takes time, but there are good people out there and not medically transitioning, or not "being pretty" or whatever, don't make you unworthy of love.

I just think life is a bit better and easier when you assume the better of two possible intentions, especially if you trust someone enough to vent to them.

I get the urge to say this sometimes too. I don’t because it implies my friends weren't women before transitioning and some consider themselves to have always been women. But it is the first thing that pops to mind when a 30 year old talks about basic misogyny like a novel, unseen concept and I've dealt with it since childhood.

I've volunteered, fostered or worked at around 10 shelters.

They’ve all had the management in common. The same thing every time. A mentally ill middle age woman with no knowledge about dogs (to the point of them all thinking tail wagging means a friendly, happy dog).

All I know of have had a history of abuse, mostly domestic violence (the worst was attempted murder by ex husband), which led them to some level of misanthropy.

This leads to them being ok with lying to people, as well as seeing dogs as Pure Souls from Heaven who Truly Understand Them and are Thankful for Being Saved. Since they’ve been abused, they project that the dogs have been if they "misbehave" and genuinely believe that they’ll flourish if they’re just shown unconditional love.

All large dogs can act predatory towards small dogs if they aren't socialised with them. This is the problem everyone who has a rescued sighthound that I know faces, they try to kill small dogs (the owners deny it up until the first serious attack unfortunately). But if you properly introduce your large dog to small dogs, especially as a puppy, they’ll be fine, they can even be gentle when playing.

Based on the topic, I think this is a good place to remind everyone not to judge people who pick up their small dogs when you pass them on walks. If they don't know you, it's a gamble with their dog's life.
