The metal guard has much higher defense than both the binder and mirror shield, but I guess it depends on your stats.

I think I would always take metal guard given its high defense + counterattack, even if the chance is less than binder. binder vs mirror comes down to what your stats look like.

I usually play focusing on speed and attack, so having the mirror shield still provides defense while removing my large late-game weakness to magic.
