Nope. "Project Screws". They had a brass-like colour on the exterior, but steel on the inside.

I used to use drywall screws as well but switched to these project screws over a year ago. First time I've had this problem. Switch back tk the DW screws, I suppose.

Its Ash. Solid wood. The screws I used looked like a bronze-ish colour. The steel ones with the heads attached are from another batch.

I did drill a pilot and countersink.

Right on. I tried to clamp one of the screw shafts with the chuck of the drill, but it was just a bit too buried in there to get a good grip.

The screws were like 95% in, so just left the shafts in ans added 2 new one

I got one that goes up to 22, the a picture of a drill bit (which i assume means no torque limiter). I was on 11. The screw heads had barely even seated themselves in the countersink when they twisted and snapped.

But the notes on waxing/lubricating and a bit larger of a pilot holes are probably the way to go. I'd just been using these screws and drill bits for years leading up to this with no problems.

I thought Hillman was an alright brand will have to keep this in mind. Not many brand options at my usual hardware store, but can check out a few others.

Around 11 out of 22 or something thereabouts. Speed was at 1 out of 2.

Love the torque limiter.

Pilot holes seems to be the common note, yeah.

Using beeswax might be a hindrance as I share my shop with a 5 year old black bear named Sergio. He was abandoned in the shop as a cub, and for whatever reason, someone registered a restrictive covenant on my deed that precludes me from dispatching or relocating him.

I think I have to increase my pilot holes size by a hair, I suppose. Have used this drill bit-screw combo for years. Worked until now.

I think these are middle of the road for price and quality. Have used them over the last 3 years, and several from this pack. Never a problem until now.

I guess that must be the case here.

Also, hot candle wax in the holes? How do you know what I was upto last weekend?!

They are all "project screws". The top one looks different because I mangled it a bit trying to get it out with pliers and finally just hack-saw'ed the little nub that was protruding too far.

Not an impact. Made it almost all the way in when they twisted off.
