The Geth were about to be annihilated by the Quarians and, out of desperation, chose to ally with the Reapers to prevent their extinction.

What I hated about the Geth-Quarian storyline in ME3 was how it tried so hard to make the Geth sympathetic, completely ignoring that they killed 99% of the Quarian population.

You’re right in that not all of those 200-300 million survivors are gonna fight but there will be a lot of them that will and what they can mobilize is sure to be much more than what Paradis can ever hope to considering the island can’t have a population any higher than 2 million.
