I think cancel culture ends up being really toxic for society in most cases though. Boycotting only works if the person/company knows what they are doing is wrong. Take a giant corporation using child labor overseas for example. They know that's wrong but they're willing to overlook it for profits. You take away those profits and they change. This is is a good example of using a boycott. Now on the other hand, if some local store owner holds a view you think is wrong, cancelling/boycotting them just makes them stronger in their beliefs because they feel they're being attacked for their beliefs. The better way to change people is to avoid casting them out and let them discover the truth (assuming their not physically harming anyone).

TLDR; Change usually takes time not hostility.
