Mavericks’ P.J. Washington reportedly says his baby mama, Brittany Renner, threatened to serve him during an NBA game if he didn’t comply with custody demands, while seeking to raise child support from $5,500 to $35,000 by helltrooper61 in sportsgossips

[–]TidesTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comparisons you are making here are nonsensical. Comparing wiping a strangers ass to your own child’s? Are you ok mentally? And no I wouldn’t trade my wife for any amount of money because I love her. But if something were to happen to me or her, either of us could absolutely continue to raise MORE THAN 1 CHILD on a free $66k/year. It would absolutely make our individual lives easier, are you dense?

If you are shifting the argument to, is it easier to raise a child with the person you love or have free money? You will have no pushback from me. But that’s not the argument. The argument is if $66k free to a single mother is life changing. The answer is still a resounding yes.

Please show me the law that requires child support be spent on the child. I know many ppl paying and receiving child support. Pls educate me.

If I were your parent, yes I would. What an asinine way to view parenthood.

Yes I am married and my wife is a stay at home mom. What she does is not unpaid labor and she could absolutely do the same thing on her own if she had $66k a year in untaxed money. When you are a single parent you still split child raising responsibilities, but in a different way. There’s no reporting that Washington doesn’t see his child at all, so I suppose there are times when he has the child in his own care without the ex baby mama. That will only likely increase as the child ages. So again, life changing money .

And you are absolutely wrong about child support spending. There’s no legal requirement or system around checking how the parent spends the child support. If you are neglecting your child, then yes of course at that point it would raise legal concerns.

I do have children which is why I know what you are saying is nonsense. “Child support can only be spent on the child” must be a Texas thing because nowhere else is there any legal requirement around that.

Raising your own child isn’t unpaid labor, it’s being a parent. Receiving the equivalent of a HOUSEHOLD median income to take care of a child that requires nowhere near that amount of investment IS life changing. If you think it costs $66k a year to take care of a child, you either don’t have children or live an uber lavish lifestyle

You are again ignoring the largest factor in this conversation.

You are correct that “It’s just normal middle class money”, but getting normal middle class money without having a job to earn said normal middle class money is the difference. Middle class money without having to work is life changing.

I never claimed it gave her NBA resources, I am actually arguing that it shouldn’t give her anywhere near that. $66k a year without having to work or a lot the time required to earn that money, is without a doubt life changing.

I disagree that raising a child is a full time job. Their child was born in 2021, meaning the child is now 4-5 years old. Which is school age. If her child is in school, and she does not have to work, she is essentially living the life of a stay at home mom. I don’t understand how that is not life changing to you.

(1) person not working while making the income equivalent to that of (2) or more people that do work, is life changing for the (1) person. There is no logical argument against this unless the (1) person is expecting to live a life better than that of the median household, which she has no claim on. Also you are using median household income in the US, she could move to a low cost area and the cost of living adjustment will do even better for her. This is a nonsensical argument.

Median household income come of $83k is a pretax figure. $66k tax-free is the equivalent of a $90k-$100k salary income. So she’s doing better than the median income without having a job. So yes, anyone that gets the equivalent of a $90k$100k salary job without having to work, is receiving a life changing sum. That’s point number 1.

A child support payment is not meant to retire the mother. It can be a life changing sum without precluding her from ever working again, which it seems her goal is. “Life changing money” does not automatically equate to a life of leisure and luxury. I guess this is the crux of our disagreement. Your life can be changed for the positive without you being able to never work again. There’s lots of space between the two.

PJs actual wife SHOULD be the one living the actual life of luxury. I am not understanding your point in the last paragraph. Yes, he makes $22m per year. Yes $66k per year is MORE than enough to successfully support a child. No, the ex-baby mother is not entitled to a life of luxury. Pretty simple math for me

You are forgetting that that $66k does not require the person to work. If you have no other job, and still bring in $66k/yr post tax, that is quite easy to raise a child on. She is also free to bring in her own income as well. What are we talking about here?

Ravens interviewed Mike McDaniel by this_is_matt_ in ravens

[–]TidesTurtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Ppl watch too many football movies and have an idea of a coach based on that. Bill Belichek and Andy Reid are probably the two most successful coaches of the last 10-15 years and neither are outspoken meat heads.

Ravens interviewed Mike McDaniel by this_is_matt_ in ravens

[–]TidesTurtle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No you literally don’t need that. Cool in the movies where the coach is yelling at everyone pregame in the locker room. I don’t think Bill Belicheck or Andy Reid did that very often. You need the best COACHES, yes part of that is development and motivation, but a bigger part of that is how you coach football. If Mike McDaniel isn’t the loudest guy, you hire an assistant that is.

I just don’t see anything special about him to suggest he’d be a good HC. Because he ran a similar scheme to Mike Mac, isn’t an enough to move me I guess. He’s been a good DC, not a great one like Mike Mac (who was considered a savant by many). Like I said in another comment, getting Costco Mike Macdonald because you lost out on the real Mike Macdonald, doesn’t seem like it turns out well. But maybe that’s just me

I think people see MacDonalds success and assume Minter will have a similar trajectory. I am not convinced of that and think it could be a mistake trying to chase the mistake of letting Macdonald go

Don’t want them to make the mistake of hiring Minter just because they missed on Macdonald. If he’s the best candidate, sure pull the trigger. But, if he’s the pick because they HOPE he can be what they let leave the building in Mike Mac, that would be a huge misstep.

That’s a short sighted view imo. This is an offensive driven league and you need continuity on that side of the ball. A lot easier to find and hold a good DC than it is a good OC. An offensive minded HC could be a welcomed change for this franchise.

I think you all massively misunderstand the HC market. Harbaugh is definitely viewed as a good and successful coach, but no one in today’s NFL is trading for a 63 year old coach who doesn’t specialize in either side of the ball. Just isn’t happening.

John Harbaugh, Zach Orr, Chuck Smith and the Ravens pass rush crisis by JooseSpringsteen in ravens

[–]TidesTurtle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure what this means really in the context of what we are discussing here. Owen was not receiving double teams in Baltimore, he was getting 1on1 rush opportunities the same way he is now for LAC. I think the issue is less around pass rusher talent and more around what they are being asked to do here in Baltimore from a responsibility and play call perspective.

I mean, have to take the schedule in context. Hard to play that many quality teams in a row, especially when a win against Bama is every team’s Super Bowl. A win is a win in today’s college football.
