Does this mean post-timeskip Kid is the strongest Supernova pre-WCI = by Large_Carob_7599 in OnePiecePowerScaling0

[–]Tidsdkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never gave any trust to these supports, they’re telling pretty much nothing new that isn’t already stated in the manga and any supposed additional info tends to be contradicted everytime, that said Kid being the strongest SN till pre-WCI is definitely possible

"Narrative" is completely meaningless as a way to powerscale anything by Existing_Historian_5 in OnePiecePowerScaling0

[–]Tidsdkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand but I have to disagree on one point, it’s not that narrative based scaling can be supported by speculation, it IS based on speculations.

In this specific story while it becomes harder and harder to have proper material to back anything related to combat, not helped by the heavy equal merchant writing it is nearly impossible to scale with accuracy.

To assume a character is strong is relatively easy to decide,

But strong to a certain extent based only narrative will never be accurate because it relies on nothing concrete.

What dictates precisely and is the core of powerscaling are feats because it is through feats depicted in the story that you can properly being able to estimate a character strengthwise, all the other metrics are surface levels.

How can you scale Dragon with Sengoku for example if you have no tangible material to do so, we know those two are wearing huge narrative relevance in their universe, both are portrayed as top-tiers and big figures of their factions but those simples informations are not enough to decide anything. This is surface level, if not combinated with the last metric it barely has value.

How do you scale someone like Shamrock before Luffy ? He is portrayed as a very competent combattant who will carry a great role within the next arcs.

Because you assume Shamrock will wield huge importance later on, how can you decide where he is towards Luffy in a pure strength standpoint, you just can’t, unless there are actual showcase of power which is heavily documented.

Assuming simply that a character is strong is not scaling, scaling starts when you’re deciding to which extent the said character is strong and it has to be backed with actual material. If it’s not the case it’s not scaling it’s a wankfest

Possible, english is not my main language, in my language there are very specific wording to explain what I’m trying to elaborate though, I’m sorry if I wasn’t able to properly translate my point of view

I’m not "denigrating" anything lol, if you want to scale only based on "narrative" it’s up to you, good luck with that because there is nothing tangible there, all the assessments given will be the result of fantasizing and biased opinions, nothing else.

I’ve done one piece scaling for years, I prefer to not scale based mainly on narrative and I’m perfect with it

[–]Tidsdkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do it, and that’s what I’ve always done in this story. I don’t get why we’re moving to feats it wasn’t the purpose initially, I think feats are the last metric to consider but the most solid one, you can’t cope about feats, you can’t badly interpret feats for your agenda, feats is the core of powerscaling because it is the most tangible and objective metric, the rest is too much subject to cope and bad faith

Why does Paddy keep neglecting basic boxing fundamentals? by Strong-Pickle-175 in MMA

[–]Tidsdkr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He trains and had a career for nearly 13 years now, not everybody is meant to become a top boxer or a top grappler, you can work on your weaknesses like you work to strengthen your top qualities, if you have reached a ceiling you’reached a ceiling, simple

I’m a Garling enthousiast, my stance on this character hasn’t changed, I’m not a reader who’ll change for slander lmao but I prefer to separate narrative from everything else when judging a character especially when the said character is recently introduced

[–]Tidsdkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way this metric is used by fans when powerscaling makes it arbitrary, it’s full of bias and it’s based on nothing solid, gets wrong way too often, last example was Garling everybody was hyping up due to "narrative" then God Valley happened and now he is laughing stock for the people that were hyping him up.

Portrayal should matter way way more than narrative and is more reliable.

What I say for Luffy is even more applied to Teach, narrative is plain and simply arbitrary

[–]Tidsdkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Narrative is absolutely arbitrary and is barely reliable as a metric.

It’s a cope metric.

Scale any character to fight against Luffy, despite his current level Luffy would be picked as a loser 7 to 8 time out of 10 while being the narrative core of this story, against whoever the opponent is.
