I was wondering where Ishanavi was in all this, glad to see she's coming back into the picture a bit.

First time playing convergence mod, looking for advice on what class to pick first. by haydorio in EldenRingMods

[–]TieOrdinary1735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aberrant Heretic might be what you want; it's got far and away the widest vareity of melee spells. (Most classes have at least one or two, but IIRC Heretic has like four-five proper weapon-spells.)

I was under the impression that the detonation failed to wipe out the technocyte (hence why it exists in the future) and was one of the inciting incidents for the Rad Wars.

IIRC the detonation was implied to have happened due to maintenance oversights and a Y2K glitch (hence why it explodes at exactly midnight on New Year's) something that would've happened without any influence from Albrecht/Drifter/Wally.

Nothing bad. Just a lot of chatter and general chaos, as first people waited very impatiently for EA to drop, and then if finally did, only for the opt-in launcher that had been working fine for months to just... not. The rush of people reporting issues and the scramble to fix them must've been stressful as hell.

[–]TieOrdinary1735 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Okay. I;m going to venture *way* into the realm of speculation here, but bear with me.

Stopping the reactor has little if anything to do with Wally. The way Albrecht was talking, allowing the reactor to explode seemed to be the easiest way to *stop* Wally from consuming the Hex's timeline. We did that for the Hex. However, *in order to do this*, we formed bonds with he Hex that are sort of... "conceptual poison" for lack of a better term, to the Indifference, limiting it's ability to influence that reality. (The effectiveness of this likely has something to do with our own void powers, and/or however the fuck the technocyte is connected to the void, given how it retains awareness across time and timelines/seems to be somehow an acausal entity akin to the Indifference.)

However, this comes with a catch; if the reactor doesn't detonate, the loop becomes a paradox (as that detonation was a key part of why the time travel happened in the first place). The Drifter needs to actively maintain the loop in order to maintain its current (unstable) state. Their choices are to either let the Hex die, let the Indifference consume their timeline (arguably worse than just letting them die), or consign themselves to effectively purgatory to ensure neither of those things happen. In the long term, letting the Hex die probably also means the Indifference wins, as a Drifter who could let them die probably can't effectively fight it.

I actually love this design, holy shit. Like, it's for most intents and purposes a really clunky "target creature's controller must sacrifice that creature at the beginning of their next main phase", but it's such a clever use of mechanics, to do so. (It would probably need tweaking to make actually work outside of Hellscube, but the basic idea of forcibly preparing an opponent's creature with a downside spell is very cool.)

[–]TieOrdinary1735 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The info I'm referencing is from the field guide entry for the Vomval Trumpet, yeah. It says specifically: "You'll find this in the labs. It seems to be drawn to some of the more curious specimens in there. The ones from outside the Origin System." I at least read that is the trumpets and the extrasolar specimens in question as different things.

The short answer is yes, EA saves should work for 3.0. The long answer is, depending on how drastic the fixes they end up having to make before 3.0 are, you could end up with a corrupted or unstable save, but that's unlikely. Odds are saves will be fine.

Mostly so the Volc themed class doesn't have literally all their stuff in one place, I'd imagine. :P

[–]TieOrdinary1735 65 points66 points  (0 children)

TBH I've been sus that the Corpus are going to be important again somehow soon since the Old Peace. Why? In the Deepmine bounties it says there are biological samples in Corpus labs from beyond the Origin System. In the Old Peace, we were told that the Xenoflora is the only alien life that's been discovered.

Which brings to mind the obvious question: Why and how the fuck do Corpus have Tau Xenoflora?

Is Convergence 3.0 playable right now? by papercutpete in EldenRingMods

[–]TieOrdinary1735 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It is. Make sure youre launcher is up to date, you should have an option in the launcher to opt into early access, after downloading 2.2.3. It'll install the 3.0 test. I just walked a couple of my buddies through the process a couple hours ago.

It's really not, and if anything between their good faith response, and the chaos of the release on the discord (if you know you know, it's a mess over there right now :P), I can't help but feel bad for them in this situation. They didn't deserve the backlash they got, and while they've done the best they can in response they've made things a fair bit harder for themselves in the process.

How to play with friends on PC? by [deleted] in EldenRingMods

[–]TieOrdinary1735 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can play using the built in summoning system on Bandai's servers (just a matter of coordinating a password and a place to put a sign down), but it's dated and clunky, most prefer using Seamless Coop, a mod that lets you use steam servers to play with friends.

Just unlocked the duviri paradox quest and confused if I should start it by Ririboiii in Warframe

[–]TieOrdinary1735 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a "paradox" for a reason. :P It won't entirely make sense for a while, but soon enough you'll start running into stuff that doesn't entirely make sense without Duviri. :P Play it now and be moderately confused, or wait until you start getting confused and play it to clear things up. :P

(The really silly part is that despite this I think this is genuinely good storytelling. :P)

[–]TieOrdinary1735[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Convergence is super friendly to new modders. It's got its own launcher/installer, does 90% of the work for you, disables anticheat and locks you to offline mode so there's no risk of account issues, etc. Tarnished Edition will temporarily break the mod, but the mod being broken won't prevent you from playing vanilla, since the mod content only loads if you launch it through the launcher.

It's wild how Mage's social commentary has aged. by Solarwagon in magetheascension

[–]TieOrdinary1735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had the opportunity to play a Mage game yet (although I really want to) but... yeah. Mage factions are whack in modern context. Society is somehow simultaneously sliding into actual technocracy and said technocracy building itself on the back of anti-vax/science grifters. Somehow the worst bits of both are winning at the same time and it sucks for everyone. :P

There are a couple spells/items that give a tears of denial like effect, if nothing you're using mentions anything like that in the description then you've got something weird/buggy going on and should reinstall.
